Team Preview: Num. 22 Hernando
February 12, 2019
The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 16, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 28, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.
Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.
We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Outlook
Coming in at Num. 22 in our Preseason Power25 are the Tigers of Hernando. Coach David Lara returns a balanced, veteran club that won 14 games a season ago. Headlining the roster are a number of senior two-way prospects which includes 1B/RHP Ben Brantley, RHP/SS Dillan Fiveash, C/RHP Grant Johnson, LHP/OF Dalton Kendrick and OF/RHP Connor Spencer. Brantley lead the roster offensively in 2018 as he finished the season with a batting average of .500 while driving in 27 runs. Spencer had a productive junior campaign as well finishing the season with an average of .361 while logging 38 innings on the mound, striking out a total of 70 opposing hitters. Several junior will also have increased roles this season including Colton Presley, Kylan Stepter and Jared Wright. One thing is for sure, the Tigers are loaded with next level talent and will be a tough team to beat in 2019.
