The 2017 season is rapidly approaching. As we get closer to season, I begin my preview of each team and stories that will affect the overall results of the high school season, and who will ultimately end their season in Baum Stadium on the campus of the University of Arkansas. We will continue to work through the 7A Central and preview Northside High School.

In 2016 the Northside Grizzlies missed the state tournament, competing in the 7A West. Moving to a new conference they will look to bounce back and find away into the field of twelve. The will have to find some players to come in an make impacts quickly as they lost several key contributors from last years roster.

On The Mound

2018 RHP Jackson Scrivner has the most experience of the returners. He had a competitive spring as a sophomore and will be relied on heavily as a junior. Scrivner will be followed by 2017 MIF/RHP Max Frazier and 2018 RHP Grant Johnson. They will look for a couple more arms to become consistent so they will have the depth to compete with the elite in the conference.

Offensively

2017 MIF Max Frazier will be get this offense started from the top of the lineup. He had a successful 2016 campaign as one of the top performers, in average, runs scored, and runs batted in for the Grizzlies. Names to know around Frazier should be 2018 3B/RHP Jackson Scrivner, 2018 C Hunter Linam, 2018 INF Grant Johnson and 2018 OF Jake Rincon.

Overall 

The Grizzlies will be improved from last year with several players gaining experience from significant playing time in 2016. I don’t see the strides enough to get them in to the state tournament with the level of competition in the 7A Central this spring.
