Team Preview: Millennium
February 11, 2021
Players in Arizona have been eager to compete for their high school programs and it feels as we are getting close. The Arizona Interscholastic Association has announced that opening day of the 2021 season will commence on Monday, March 1st. Programs will allowed to begin practicing while holding tryouts in an official capacity before moving on to live competition. The PBR Arizona staff will start to begin its 2021 season coverage starting with our Preseason Power 25 rankings. Over the next two months and leading up to opening day, we will be highlighting some of the top programs in state in our team previews. PBR will also be publishing its state Power 25 rankings that will be updated every Monday once the season begins. Throughout the season, PBR will be pumping out coverage, highlighting individual players, games, rankings, scouting reports and nominating a player of the week. PBR looks forward to getting out there this spring to see some great baseball.
Our Preseason Power 25 rankings coverage starts today.
Team: Millennium
Preseason Rank: Bubble
2020 Record: 4-0
Conference: Desert West
AIA Classification: 5A
Head Coach: Matt Royal
Returning Starters: 4
Returning Pitchers: 3
OUTLOOK:
Millennium lands on the bubble to start the year in our initial P25 Preseason rankings and they were definitely in conversation to start the year in the Top-25. The Tigers were in for a strong year in 2020 before the season came to an unexpected end, starting the season undefeated. They lose some pieces to the squad but we expect them to compete at the top in 5A this spring. Starting pitching will be a strength of this squad as they return a few important arms from last year's squad. Senior left-hander, Connor Hill (Point Loma) should be the ace of the staff as well as a key piece to their offense. 2022 RHP Sean Farney (Uncommitted) is another arm that will be tough for opposing lineups this year. He was a member of Team Arizona at the PBR Future Games in 2020. Farney shows good arm strength with the ability to run his FB up to 90mph while living down in zone. Centerfielder & UNLV commit, Kaleb Duncan should get things started offensively for this quad, providing some energy with top of the order potential. He has plus speed, roaming the OF and taking extra bases. Look for this team to compete with anyone in 5A.
