The 2017 season is rapidly approaching. As we get closer to season, I begin my preview of each team and stories that will affect the overall results of the high school season, and who will ultimately end their season in Baum Stadium on the campus of the University of Arkansas. We are working our coverage through the 7A west, we get a look at Har-Ber High School.
2016 the Wildcats fell in the semi-final to Bryant, the eventual 7A State Champions. They return some key pieces from that team and have some young talent to fill holes of the departed. Getting consistent pitching will be the key with their young pitching staff.
Pitching
2019 RHP/OF Blake Adams, has the most talent of anyone on the staff and maybe in the league. He possesses a fastball that can work up into the low 90s and is showing signs of improvement with his secondary pitches. He has frontline stuff if he can show the mental maturity and stamina to be a front-line starter is yet to be seen. After Adams, look for 2017 UTL Caleb Grace and 2018 RHP Treshawn Pascal to get a majority of the innings. Pascal could be the key to their success, he has shown the ability to run his fastball to 87 mph, with competitive secondary pitches.
Offensively
Har-ber should be an advanced offensive unit anchored by 2017 OF/1B Caleb Kimbel, 2017 UTL Caleb Grace, and 2019 RHP/OF Blake Adams. All three players have shown consistent doubles power, with an occasional home run. Other players that should be impactful is 2018 MIF Blaze Brothers, 2018 MIF Mac Mcroskey. A couple young players to keep an eye on throughout the spring is 2019 INF Kirby Jenkins and 2020 INF Marcus Brown, they both maybe a year away from being consistent contributors but have shown well in their specific age groups and will be regular names in the Har-Ber line up over the next few years.
Overall
Overall this will be a very competitive unit with a strong offense. Their offense will be enough to keep them in the mix for the conference race until the very end. The question mark will be, the consistency on the mound and if depth comes into play down the stretch. I expect this to be a tough out as well during the state tournament.
