January 28, 2021
Players in Arizona have been eager to compete for their high school programs and it feels as we are getting close. The Arizona Interscholastic Association has announced that opening day of the 2021 season will commence on Monday, March 1st. Programs will allowed to begin practicing while holding tryouts in an official capacity before moving on to live competition. The PBR Arizona staff will start to begin its 2021 season coverage starting with our Preseason Power 25 rankings. Over the next two months and leading up to opening day, we will be highlighting some of the top programs in state in our team previews. PBR will also be publishing its state Power 25 rankings that will be updated every Monday once the season begins. Throughout the season, PBR will be pumping out coverage, highlighting individual players, games, rankings, scouting reports and nominating a player of the week. PBR looks forward to getting out there this spring to see some great baseball.

OUTLOOK:
Canyon View High School is currently listed outside our Preseason Power 25 rankings. However, that doesn't mean they wont crack the list at some point. Canyon View moves up to 5A this upcoming spring and could be a sleeper team in the class. Being a newer school, the Jaguars return their whole roster with quite a bit of talent at the younger grad classes. One of this teams biggest assets will be their pitching staff which has quite a few strike throwers. Junior LHP, Jacob Heppner will be the ace of the staff to start the spring and they will also rely heavily on high upside LHP, Kendrick Brady. CV also has a trio of Sophomores that will boost the depth of this staff in Diego Garcia, Matthew Hart and Long Beach State commit, Connor Mattison. Several of these pitchers that can also do some damage at the plate. Their ace, Heppner returns as one of their top bats the previous year. Another bat to look out for is switch-hitting sophomore, Ashton Zacher, we wouldn't be surprised if he had a breakout spring. He is an advanced athlete in the 2023 class. Dont sleep on this young Canyon View team in the future.
