Team Pacific Northwest - Game 2 Recap

After opening game play with a 7-5 win over Nevada, PNW faced a big test in G2 against a physical Colorado squad.

Things started off fast for PNW with a leadoff single from ‘25 OF Riley Sanoy (Puyallup, WA) followed by walks to both ‘26 Sean Evans (Tahoma, WA) and ‘25 Martyn Hernandez (Rogers, WA) to load the bases with 2 outs.

Then ‘25 Mason Pirello (Skyline, WA) brought everyone home with a thunderous blast over the LCF fence for a grand slam. Pirello has posted some big exit velocity numbers this week and his plus raw power makes him one of the more exciting bats at the event. He kept the hands back on a low CH here and launched it out of the yard with a 97 mph shot off the bat.

After the opening frame grand slam, the bats went quiet for a bit but we saw RBIs from ‘26 Eli Herst (Garfield, WA) on a single up the middle plus a sac fly from ‘25 OF Slater de Brun (Summit, OR)

As we got to the bottom of the 7th, Colorado had fought back and had taken a 7-6 lead. But there was still work to be done. ‘25 Alexander Pearson (Tigard, OR) started off the inning with a scorched 2B down the LF line to put the tying run at 2nd base to start the inning. After a ground out advanced him to 3rd, the dangerous Pirello was walked to put the winning run on base.

That was when ‘25 OF Slater de Brun (Summit, OR) made a statement with an absolute no-doubter to RF for a walk-off 3 run HR. De Brun stayed down in his legs on this one and got the barrel out front for a majestic blast that propelled PNW to their 2nd win of the event and cemented de Brun as one of the best speed/power combinations at LakePoint.

PITCHING RECAP

On the mound, ‘25 RHP/1B Connor Parry (Sherwood, OR) toed the rubber for his first game action since the spring. The talented, projectable righty settled in at 83-84 in 2 innings of work while reaching back for 87 early. FB comes out from a lower slot with riding life in the zone. Pairs it with a SL at 72-74 and occasional CH at 73. Given the body type, arm action and fluidity of his delivery, Parry is an arm to watch as he could make a big leap in 2024.

After Parry, PNW received innings from a wave of 2-way players who showed off their versatility on the mound.

‘25 OF/RHP Matthew Manjooran (Camas, WA) worked with a simplified delivery and attacked with 3 pitches throughout. Releases from ¾ slot with clean, low maintenance actions.

SL 68-74
CH 77

‘25 C/RHP Jaylen Kennedy (North Thurston, WA) comes from a sidearm slot creating a tough angle for RHH and giving a different look in a reliever profile. FB shows sinking action and pairs well with sweeping SL.

FB 76-78
SL 67-71

‘25 OF/1B/LHP Alexander Pearson (Tigard, OR) dialed it up to 84 mph from the left side while holding low 80s with a tailing FB. Showed a tight CB and fading CH as well. Short, tight arm action with a bit of deception coming from a bigger bodied arm.

FB 80-84 (82)
CB 66-68
CH 77

‘26 RHP/C Eli Herst (Garfield, WA) made back to back outings in 1 inning stents and yet again flashed some of the best upside we saw this week on the mound. Velo held 83-85 again and there was a bit more command throughout as he made his 2nd appearance and worked through the initial adjustment of the environment and the heat. Will be a huge arm to watch in the class nationally as he continues to develop.
