EMERSON, GEORGIA - Day 2 of the 10th annual Prep Baseball Report Future Games was the opening day of games for all teams competing. Team California matched up against Team Nevada, falling 7-1. Despite the loss there was plenty for college recruiters and Prep Baseball Report scouts to see. We take a look at a few standouts from todays game.

Day 2

Bryce Dean

Dean got attention thanks to ProPlayAI, the newest tech piece added to the Prep Baseball Report tech repertoire. ProPlayAI showed Dean's peak arm speed of 22 m/s, which is comparable to top 2021 MLB Draft arms. His fastball sat comfortably at 86-89 mph to both sides of the plate and showed ability to elevate late in the count. Flashed a slider with solid spin and swing and miss potential in the 73-76 mph range. At 6-foot-2 170 pounds, Dean has room for more and with a fastball surely to be in the low 90s sooner than later.

Brock Thompson

Thompson singled to the opposite field on two strikes for arguably the most impressive hit of the game for Team California. After swinging and missing badly on the first two pitches of the at-bat, Thompson adjusted his swing, shortened up, went with the pitch location, found barrel and reached first safely with a single. These kind of at-bats are the ones that college recruiters will remember as they see a hitter with high average ability and willingness to do less to gain more.

Will Gasparino

Gasparino had one of the more standout performances in his workout on Wednesday and he continued his solid play heading into the first game of the week against Nevada. He showcased some of his elite bat-to-ball skills in his first at-bat where he sat on curveball with two strikes and lined it to center for a single. Was also able to take advantage of a ball that got away from the catcher and show his above-average speed by taking second which later allowed him to score Team California’s only run. He should continue to draw scout’s eyes the rest of this week.

Jackson Kemmerer

Kemmerer was able to put some of his elite blast metrics he showed yesterday on display today in some game action. In his second AB of the game, he kept his hands in and turned tight on a high and inside fastball, and drove it into left for a single. His bat works in the zone efficiently and stays on-plane through finish which allows him to consistently barrel up higher velos.

MJ Sweeney

Sweeney is making his second appearance at the PBR Future Games and the hit tool is the tool that continues to stands out. Sweeney put on a pull-side display in BP yesterday showing elite 74+ mph bat speed and as high as 98 mph exit velos but in today’s game, he showed the ability to go with an outside FB and line it to the left side for a single. He has had a great summer already and is looking to wrap it up with continued great gameplay the rest of this week.

Addison Klepsch

Klepsch is one of the more exciting 24’s for Team California. Was a later varsity call-up for Poway this past HS season and played very well until he came down with a hamstring injury. Came back to playing about two weeks ago and is showing no ill signs. In today’s game, he first showed it first with the bat by lining a ball straight to the centerfielder for an out. Then he made two solid plays at SS. The first recognizing he had time to nab a runner trying to advance to third on a routine GB. The second was on a GB where he had to range into the 5-6 whole, use his backhand, and make a strong throw to get the runner. Klepsch is going to make himself known amongst many college coaches by the end of this summer.
