Tajblik Excited To Take His Game To The Next Level At Toledo

GENOA - The first school to reach out at the Aug. 1 deadline is where Drew Tajblik will call home in college.

“Having a good relationship with the coaches and being close to home feels right,” the Lake High School junior said about the University of Toledo, which is 15 minutes from his home in Genoa. “It means so much to me. I love Toledo. I was at a camp there last winter and it felt like home.”

A commitment capped a summer that resulted in a busy Aug. 1 for the seventh-rated 2025 shortstop in Ohio.

“Coach McIntyre talked with my head coach of Demand Command and said he wanted to see me at their camp,” Tajblik said in reference to the UT assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Nick McIntyre. “I performed well and throughout the summer their coaches were watching me at PBR tournaments. I went to the Future Games and all their coaches were there. They contacted me on Aug. 1 and a couple of days after they offered.”

A month later the 37th-ranked junior in the state went on an official visit to the Mid-American Conference school.

“I watched a Toledo football game on Sept 9, went on the field and toured the campus,” reflected Tajblik, who also had an offer from Kent State as well as interest from Michigan State, Cincinnati, VMI and Ohio University. “It was amazing. After the visit I knew I wanted to go there.”

Toledo saw the 6-2 165-pounder as a great fit to the program.

“They love how athletic I am and how I move,” Tajblik said. “Mainly they liked how aggressive I am at the plate and how I can go to right field and hit the ball anywhere.”

While now over, the 16-year-old enjoyed his recruiting process.

“It mainly started on Aug. 1 when everyone started calling,” Tajblik related. “I went to PBR events and showcases with my high school before that. PBR helped a lot with the smallest of things. I’m sure coach (Jordan) Chiero (PBR Ohio Director of Scouting) got my name out. 

“It really wasn’t stressful at all,” Tajblik added. “I liked hearing input from coaches and what they had to say.”

It was around the age of 11 or 12 when Tajblik began considering playing baseball after high school.

“I saw friends were going to go to play college baseball and that’s when I really became interested,” Tajblik noted. “It picked up in 14-15 summer when I started hitting the ball harder and fixed some mechanics and I started to believe I actually could play college baseball. That was a big dream of mine and to now have an opportunity to go is amazing.”

Improvement in the weight room and getting faster and stronger also proved beneficial according to Tajblik, who gave credit to his biggest two influences with making it all happen.

“My parents did everything for me to get better,” Tajblik pointed out. “From feeding me to get bigger to being there for my highs and lows, they were there all the time.”

Recruited by UT as a middle infielder, Tajblik is confident about what he can provide the MAC program.

“I see myself being able to swing it for Toledo, glove it and be good on the bases,” Tajblik said.

A major in business or business marketing is being considered by the 3.8 student, excited to have his commitment official.

“It was really thrilling when I made the decision,” Tajblik noted. “My family supported me through the whole process and it was a sense of relief when I made the call. My dreams are coming true.”

In less than two years the Lake High School junior will be off to college.

“I’m looking forward to campus life and working with the team,” Tajblik concluded. “Those are the biggest things I’m looking forward to about Toledo.”
