Surber transfers from Clemson, and other news
January 13, 2012
Jon Surber, who was one of the top prospects in Illinois’ Class of 2010, has transferred from Clemson University to John A. Logan JC. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed pitcher from Lisle HS will be eligible to pitch this spring at Logan.
Surber was the No. 9-ranked prospect in a strong 2010 class that included Minooka first-round draft pick Mike Foltynewicz and Granite City C Jake DePew. Surber earned second-team All-State honors as a senior, as he struck out 75 to 11 walks in 52 innings. Offensively, Surber tallied 15 doubles, 11 homers and 48 RBI.
Surber will join former Teutopolis left-handed ace Derek Thompson, who was the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Class of 2012, to make a formidable pitching duo at Logan.
