In the fall of his junior year, Layton was topping out at 83 mph, but he had a quick arm and projection in his 6-foot-4, 175-pound frame. A year and 35 pounds later, Layton is in position to take a step forward. He’s now 6-foot-5, 210 pounds and has been up 91 with his fastball, up from 87 just a few months ago. He throws over the top with a 12-to-6 curveball that shows at least average potential. He also works with a solid changeup. He pitches with effort and gets down the mound aggressively, but his arm is loose and works well.
