While the nation was prepping a potential Atlanta Falcon upset or another ring for Tom Brady (the outcome), the baseball world turned it's eyes to the the Chicago region for the 15th Annual Super 60 Procase held at the expansive Max McCook Athletic & Exposition Center in McCook, IL. After several days of meetings with the powers that be at the state and national level, which included some exciting developments (Adidas and Diamond Kinetics partnerships), the stage was set for Sunday morning.

Our Guy

New York's lone representative was 3B Parker Hendershot from Class C Tioga in the Southern Tier. Hendershot is well known in the PBR-NY circuit having attending several events over the years, having signed with the University at Buffalo this fall. In a nutshell one could say that the PBR mantra is all about what Parker represents...small town player, not involved with expansive travel programs, strives to better his numbers and goals each and every time out. Similar to last year's representative, Dan Dallas (Canisius HS/ 7th round San Diego Padres), almost a low flying player on the radar. As scouts, these are the players that you would want to know about and get a feel for. Nationally, most scouts and our PBR brethren knew very little going in.

The Numbers

Similar to most showcases the 60 yd dash kicked off the day. Hendershot, who has added 15-17 pounds of muscle to his frame checked in with a 7.12, merely .02 off of his personal best. As a corner infielder, these numbers are more then respectable. The offensive rotation was next; featuring a Diamond Kinetics station, exit velocity and two rounds of BP (10 swings each). Hendershot's previous high with exit velocity was 100 MPH with aluminum; with the wood he peaked at an impressive 99MPH. After the day was done he stood 4th overall with the peak being an eye-popping 106 MPH by TCU commit Brad Czerniejewski, OF, Lake Forest (IL), 2017  . Defensively, working out at SS, Hendershot peaked at 89 MPH, the 5th best infield arm at the event.

Breaking it Down

Hendershot's batting practice session on a large scale matched up very well with the other attendees. His first round featured 3-to-4 scorched middle of the field line drives right out of the gate. As he progressed their was some flashes of pop to the pull side gap along with a couple of lasers to right center, one of the few players to make and effort to stay with the pitch. Showed repeatable mechanics, aggressive lower half and the ability to stay in the zone for a long time. Occasional top hand drag caused him to punch some balls through the middle to right side but all-in-all a solid effort. Defensively, as most 3B know, you will end at shortstop in a showcase setting. Using his lower to the ground setup Hendershot look very comfortable with his forehands, uncorking his best throws. Took proper angles up the middle as most groundballs were ranged to the fullest extent; improvement in getting his feet underneath to make the throw may have made for stronger efforts but his exchange and serviceable release made it work. Ranging deep in the hole for the backhands proved to be a non-issue for the 3B that may not normally experience something in that far in that direction. In retrospect, a planting on the back leg and unleashing a stronger throw may have been better suited then the quick release option that was taken.
