With PBR’s premier event, the Super 60, taking place on Sunday, On the Hunt takes a look back at some of the early reports from its participants. Even before they were committed to Division 1 programs, each of the players below showcased high-level tools on developing frames with plenty of promise for the future. Their skills and frames have matured since those early glimpses, and with college decisions made, they look to show off their skills in front of more than 100 scouts hoping to make a strong impression prior to opening day. The road to the 2019 MLB Draft may unofficially begin on Sunday at the Super 60, but the foundations of each of these players as prospects began long before.

Owen Diodati C / 1B / A.N. Myer , ON / 2019
August 2017 The boys from Canada had been winless in several trips to the Future Games until they rolled into Indianapolis this year. Bringing with them some cooler weather on the third day of the event, they would snag a victory, and follow it with another the next day to finish 2-1. Diodati was a big reason for those victories. The broad-shouldered, 6-foot-3, 200-pound, left-handed hitting catcher showed power to both gaps while also guiding the pitching staff. His raw strength couples well with a smooth rhythm with his hands and feet while at the plate. His hands work fast through the zone on a level plane with a higher, two-handed finish. Diodati smacked balls to both gaps in batting practice, and continued to do the same in the games where he was running for extra bases on multiple occasions. Behind the dish, his arm showed carry while being accurate, and produced times around 2.0, but he has been as low as 1.93 in the past. He is a hard worker behind the plate, and I believe he is far from being done improving. The more top pitching that he works with, the better he will become, and with his strong frame and left-handed bat, he has a chance to blossom into one of the elite backstops in the 2019 class.
