Super 60 : Indiana Recap

PBR Indiana

Talented draft prospects from all across the country descended on Chicago for the 21st annual Super 60 Pro Showcase, Prep Baseball Report’s premier professional scouting event of the winter. Three players from the state of Indiana attended the event and all three respectively had outstanding showings in front of over 100 professional scouts.

First look at Max Clark’s “new swing”

When Max Clark stepped to the dish at Super 60, everyone stopped what they were doing and all eyes were on the 6-foot-1, 198 pound outfielder from Franklin Community High School. The Vanderbilt recruit is one of the most well known high school prospects in the country thanks to his immense social media following and his potential to be one of the top draft picks in the 2023 MLB Draft. Coming into Super 60, Max had discussed his excitement to show off his “new swing” after making a few adjustments this offseason. You immediately notice the adjustment in Max’s setup - his hands positioned lower, starting at his back shoulder as opposed to starting up near the top of his head as seen before. This adjustment allows for a more free flowing load that creates quality separation and allows his barrel to get on plane deeper in the zone. Max is able to create effortless bat speed (peak bat speed of 78.3 mph) and showed improvements in his lower half - controlling his move forward in a more efficient manner than he has in the past with a new, shorter stride. The results of these adjustments were two loud rounds of batting practice for Max, showing the ability to use the entire field and reaching a peak exit velocity of 102.1 mph, while averaging 93.1 mph throughout the entirety of his two rounds.

Power Arms

Indiana grown arms did not disappoint at the Super 60, to say the least. The first Indiana arm to throw was Floyd Central High School product RHP Bishop Letson. The wiry, athletic 6-foot-4, 175 pound Purdue recruit showed off a loose and lightning-quick right arm in his bullpen session, sitting 91-94 mph on his fastball with considerable ride through the zone and advanced spin metrics (2600+ rpm spin rate on his fastball). Letson showed off a sharp, tight slider at 80-82 mph (2300+ rpm) and an 81-83 mph changeup with arm side sink. An elite combination of twitch and body control allowed Letson to pour strikes into the zone with all three of his pitches throughout the entirety of his bullpen. Expect Letson’s velocity to continue to trend upwards, as he has plenty of room to add strength in his lower half.

The second Indiana arm to throw was University High School product RHP/SS Jake Hooker. Hooker showed a major improvement in fastball velocity, posting the second highest fastball velocity at the event, touching 95.1 mph via Trackman. The Xavier recruit showed major arm strength, sitting 91-94 mph throughout his bullpen session, and his arm slot allowed some run/downhill angle on his fastball. Hooker showed a short, 84-87 mph slider with late break and true horizontal action, and also flashed a changeup at 86-88 mph. The 6-foot-2, 200 pounder has a strong lower-half and impressive athleticism, as he is committed to Xavier as a two-way player.
