Entering the week, Summit Country Day sat on top of division rankings with an unblemished record.
Meanwhile, CHCA found itself looking up and needing a series sweep to guarantee a share of the league title.
On Thursday, CHCA handed Summit Country Day their first league loss behind a no-hit performance from junior right-handed pitcher Jacob Bank.
As a result, the stage was set for a battle over the league title when Summit visited CHCA on Friday evening.
Summit started the first inning in a different fashion than a day ago.
Senior Gabe Scott (George Washington recruit) walked and then stole second base. Sophomore Doug Compton would follow with a base hit to plate Scott and make the score 1-0.
Later in the third inning, Summit Country Day struck again as a sacrifice fly by senior Matt Slager (ONU recruit) pushed the score to 2-0 in favor of Coach Callos' club.
However, in the bottom of the 4th, the momentum began to swing back in CHCA's favor as Coach Redwine's squad batted through their entire lineup.
The inning started with a double by senior Ted Andrews (Furman recruit). After an infield hit and a walk, CHCA managed to load the bases. Junior Jacob Banks, senior Nick Taylor, and sophomore Cameron Murray followed with RBI singles to shift the score to 3-2 in CHCA's favor. Junior Bobby Paola delivered the final blow with a double that drove in two runs and stretched the lead to 5-2.
CHCA held on to the 5-2 lead and captured at least a share of the league title.
Junior Evan Jelley started for CHCA and earned the win. He went 4 and 1/3 innings while allowing 2 earned runs and recording 6 strikeouts. Jelley was clocked at 82 mph with a 74 mph curveball and a 70 mph changeup.
Senior Kenny Kerr started for Summit Country Day and took the loss. Kerr pitched 3 scoreless innings ON the front end and the back end of the 4th inning (when he gave up 5 runs). He displayed an 81 mph fastball along with a 64 mph curve ball and a 61 mph changeup.
CHCA will look to keep their winning streak alive tomorrow with a tough contest against St. Xavier. Summit Country Day has the rest of the weekend off and will resume play Tuesday at Cincinnati Christian.
