Summer Preseason I.D.: Outfield Analysis

Continuing our coverage of the Summer Preseason I.D., today we look at the outfielders. The outfielders were led by Tyler Gaecke who projects as more of a corner outfielder with a strong bat. Gaecke leads a trio of sophomores who also made our top five. Here’s a look at the top outfield prospects.
Top Outfield Prospects
1. Tyler Gaecke, OF, Mukwonago, 2018
6-foot-3, 210-pound outfielder, large strong build, wide shoulders. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, coils, stays balanced. Big body with short path to the baseball, hands are loose, path is level. 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively works through the baseball in the outfield, hands played well, exchange is clean. 7.4 runner in the 60. Arm action is long over the top slot, 83 mph.
2. Colin Kalinowski, C/OF, Oak Creek, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting C/OF with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from balanced setup with a short heel lift stride and good balance. Pull hitter with a long swing path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.33. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Active blocker with quick footwork behind the plate. Gets out of the chute quickly. Popped 2.11-2.17 and threw 78 mph from the crouch. Took drills in the outfield, plays thru the ball with quick footwork. Throws showed carry at 84 mph.
3. Sean Sanchez, OF, Greendale, 2019
6-foot, 186-pound two-way player, strong durable build. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short stride, lower half works. Path has some length with bat speed, level through contact. 97 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played short and over the top, 87 mph from the outfield, played through the baseball with a crowhop. Ran a 7.29 in the 60. On the mound arm played from a ¾ slot, showed quickness, some effort. Fastball topped at 80 mph, sat 76-78 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, 61-66 mph. Straight changeup thrown near fastball arm speed, 67-70 mph.
4. Luke Blaha, OF/RHP, Mukwonago, 2019
6-foot, 180-pound two-way player, solid build. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, quiet and balanced. Path flashed extension, loose hands, high finish. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively played through the baseball, hands played. Arm action is long and over the top, 82 mph from the outfield. On the mound arm played similarly, fastball is mostly straight, 73-75 mph. Straight changeup is 66-68 mph, occasional sink.
5. Josh Kolb, OF, Kettle Moraine, 2018
6-foot, 160-pound outfielder, athletic build, lean strength, flashes quick twitch. Right-handed hitter, tall setup, slightly open, short stride. Path is short and level, line drive type hitter, showed quick bat. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Ran a 7.01 in the 60, laser timed. In the outfield arm works with length, high ¾ slot, 79 mph. Feet work through the baseball, athletic attack of the ball.

Dylan Anderson, OF, Neenah, 2020
6-foot, 145-pound outfielder, thin frame. Right-handed hitter, wide balanced stance, minimal load, no stride heel lift trigger. Path is short, uphill through contact, 68 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 78 mph, short over the top, plays through the baseball. Ran the 60 at 7.56.
Carson Bernd, OF, Grafton, 2019
5-foot-10, 170-pound outfielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, slightly closed, minimal stride. Hits with upper half, level path, 77 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long and over the top, 79 mph from the outfield. Plays through with long exchange. 7.69 runner in the 60.
Nolan Buyze, OF/RHP, Oostburg, 2019
5-foot-11, 170-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, hands drop into load, minimal stride. Path is long and level. 86 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.73 runner in the 60. Defensively arm played long, high ¾ slot, 73 mph from the outfield. On the mound fastball topped at 71 mph, sat 69-70. Curveball has slight 11/5 shape, 60-63 mph. Changeup is 56-59 mph.
Chris Keup, OF, Waukesha West, 2018
5-foot-7, 130-pound outfielder. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, smooth longer stride, toe tap trigger. Path was short, occasionally level, uphill finish. Flashed line drive contact, 69 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, over the top slot, some effort, 73 mph. Let’s it get to him, 7.68 runner in the 60.
Ellis Nosek, OF, Kettle Moraine, 2018
5-foot-11, 173-pound outfielder, athletic frame with strength, left-handed thrower, right-handed hitter. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, slight leg lift trigger. Level path, uses lower half, some bat strength. 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Ran the 60 at 7.16. Plays through the baseball, quick footwork getting to the baseball. Arm plays short and over the top, 76 mph.
Will Ross, OF/RHP, Waunakee, 2020
5-foot-10, 165-pound two-way player, lean athletic shape. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, loads stride knee to knee. Path is short and level, 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short and over the top, 80 mph from the outfield, flashed carry. Plays through the baseball, 7.31 runner in the 60. On the mound arm action is similar, tall and fall delivery. Fastball sat 73-74 mph, mostly straight, four seam type. Curveball has 12/6 shape, 54-59 mph, gradual action. Changeup shows cut, 66-69 mph.
Nick Sterman, OF, West Bend West, 2018
6-foot, 195-pound outfielder, strong durable frame. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, bat wraps slightly, short stride. Raw bat strength, path works slightly uphill, some length. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm plays at 80 mph, high ¾ slot, long arm action. Outfield actions occasionally play through the baseball. 7.33 runner in the 60.
Joey Tadych, OF/RHP, Shawano, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound two-way player. Ran the 60 at 7.11, laser timed. Plays through the baseball in the outfield, field work through it with crowhop to release. Arm action plays over the top, 80 mph. Right-handed hitter, open stance, slight wrap, minimal lower half. Line drive contact, showed level path. 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. On the mound arm played from a high ¾ slot, showed effort with upright finish. Fastball sat 73-74 mph, mostly straight four seam type. Curveball plays 12/6, 62-63 mph. Changeup was firm, 70-73 mph, thrown with fastball arm speed, lacked separation.
Jackson Wagner, OF, Oak Creek, 2018
5-foot-7, 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Arm played with some carry, long over the top slot, 83 mph from the outfield. Ran the 60 at 7.38. Hits from a balanced setup, two piece timing, abrupt load of hands up and back. Path is short down the baseball, line drive contact, 78 mph exit velocity from the tee.
