The Summer Preseason I.D. Showcase took place on Saturday May 13th at STiKS Academy in Waukesha, WI. Today we start the player analysis with the catcher reports from the event.
Top Prospects
1. Colin Kalinowski, C/OF, Oak Creek, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting C/OF with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from balanced setup with a short heel lift stride and good balance. Pull hitter with a long swing path and a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.33. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Active blocker with quick footwork behind the plate. Gets out of the chute quickly. Popped 2.11-2.17 and threw 78 mph from the crouch. Took drills in the outfield, plays thru the ball with quick footwork. Throws showed carry at 84 mph.
2. Jack Pawlak, C, Grafton, 2018
6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Slower transfer with a long exchange, gains ground towards second. Popped 2.11-2.26 and threw 79 mph from the crouch. Showed flexibility in the lower half receiving. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short lie lift stride. Uphill path with a fast bat. Showed strength thru contact with 93 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.72.
3. Gino D’Alessio, C/3B, Pius XI, 2018
6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a lanky frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride and average balance. Line drive hitter with and uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.50. Defensively behind the plate has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Raises up early out of crouch in drills. Popped 2.09-2.18 and threw 75 mph from the crouch. Took drills in the infield as well, throwing 79 mph across the diamond.

5-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a wide base with a short leg lift stride and good balance. Line drive, pull hitter with a long swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.61. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Gains ground toward second base on throws with a compact exchange. Popped 2.19-2.43 and threw 72 mph from the crouch.
AJ Foeckler, C, Marquette University, 2019
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate hits from a tall, narrow setup. Drop load with a leg kick stride and uphill swing path. 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.47. Defensively popped 2.44-2.61 and threw 66 mph from the crouch.
John Gulrud, C, Kettle Moraine, 2019
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate hits from a tall, narrow setup with a short, uphill path. Cuts off extension. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.50. Defensively has a long arm action from an over the top slot. Popped 2.79-2.97 and threw 66 mph from the crouch.
Mikey Kirkbride, C, Pewaukee, 2018
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short, heel lift stride. Line drive hitter with a short swing path. Mason Kodrich, C/3B, West Allis Central, 2019
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting C/3B with a lanky frame. At the plate hits from a balanced setup with a short stride. Short path with stiff rhythm. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 8.11. Defensively popped 2.58-2.76 and threw 67 mph from the crouch. Also took drills in the infield throwing 67 mph across the diamond.
Michael Mikoda, C, Arrowhead, 2019
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits form a tall, closed setup with a low hand set. Short, uphill swing path. 76 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.98. Defensively has a short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. Stand and throw. Popped 2.35-2.51 and threw 68 mph from the crouch.
Casey Mir, C, Menomonee Falls, 2019
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong frame. Narrow setup at the plate with a short load to backside and leg lift stride. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.54. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Stand up to receive in drills. Popped 2.30-2.55 and threw 68 mph from the crouch.
Cooper Tamblyn, C, Muskego, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Offensively hits from a tall, slightly closed setup, wrap load with good balance. Long, uphill swing path. Showed strength thru contact with 83 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran the 60 at 7.64. Defensively has a short arm action from an over the top slot. Popped 2.19-2.28 and threw 71 mph from the crouch.
Jakob Wals, C, Plainfield East (IL), 2018
5-foot-8, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate hits from a balanced, crouched setup with a short stride. Good balance with a long, uphill swing path. 74 mph exit velocity from a tee.
