We thought we heard of all high schools in Illinois. Logan Talkington proved us wrong, when the junior from North Mac HS showed up at an Open Identification Showcase in November.

Where exactly is North Mac HS? Good question. It’s located in Virdin, Illinois, about 30 minutes south of Springfield, school enrollment of 428. Regardless of how small North Mac is, Talkington certainly swings a big bat.

Talkington is a physical 6-foot-5, 230-pound left-handed hitting first baseman who doesn’t get cheated in the box. Offensively, he takes an extremely aggressive hack at the baseball. He displayed strong hands with excellent bat speed.

Talkington’s path creates extension on a slightly uphill path, creating consistently hard hit, lofted baseballs. With his pull side power approach, he was able to maintain some throughout his swing. See for yourself.

Defensively at first base, he demonstrated above average arm strength at 83 mph. He also ran the 60 in 7.59.

On the mound, the right-hander’s fastball sat at 78-81 mph, coupled with a 60-62 mph curveball and a 72-73 mph changeup.
