Stock Report: Class of 2014 C Matt Zembraski (Warrensburg)
November 29, 2012
Matt Zembraski from Warrensburg HS is a switch hitting 5-foot-11, 160-pound catcher who saw his stock rise in the class of 2014 with his performance atthe Kansas City Fall Prospect Showcase.
Behind the plate, Zembraski has a good base and shows the ability to stick balls in all parts of the zone. He also shows good footwork and a quick transfer, with pop times in the 1.98-2.12 range on the bag. During bullpen sessions, he demonstrated quick instincts and body control while blocking.
At the plate, from the right side, Zembraski has a balanced stance with quick hands and a short quick swing that produced gap to gap line drives. From the left side of the plate, he showed good rhythm and the ability to drive the ball to the right side with backspin carry.
Zembraski also showed some athleticism with an event best 6.81 60, one of the fastest times we have seen for a catcher in some time.
While he projects well as a catcher, Zembraski has the abilty to potentially roam the outfield as well. With his speed and a strong, accurate arm he could be a legit multi-positional player.
From his efforts and how he conducts himself, Zembraski looks to be the type of catcher who can take control and handle a pitching staff.
