DALLAS, TX - St. John’s and St. Mark’s played at Episcopal School of Dallas on Thursday, in a first round Southwest Preparatory Conference playoff game. Sixth seeded St. Mark’s sent 2018 LHP Reece Rabin to mound, while third seeded St. John’s went with 2019 RHP Matthew Guyton. The game would be a low scoring affair as both starters went at least six innings, with only one earned run given up between them.
St. Mark’s got on the board in the top of the first, scoring two unearned runs on one hit, and two St. John’s errors. In the bottom of the second, St. John’s answered with a run when Rob Wallace hammered a double off the left field wall, driving in Beckett Vine. St. Mark’s 2, St. John’s 1.
Both starters were outstanding in the afternoon game. For St. John’s, Matthew Guyton worked six strong innings, allowing two unearned runs, two walks, and only three hits. Freshman right-hander Beckett Vine threw a clean seventh inning, striking out two batters.
But in the end, St. Mark’s and left-hander Reece Rabin would prevail. The junior threw a complete game, allowing one earned run on six hits, five strikeouts, and two walks.
Final score, St. Mark’s 2, St. John’s 1. Next up for St. Mark’s is a Quarterfinal game vs. Ft. Worth Country Day.
