season preview

Ready to ride once again, the Roughnecks enter this spring with the sturdiness of a bull moose. Head Coach Skylar Stagner isn’t lacking in talent, as 2017 should see substantial momentum a season after winning 26 games. Senior Taylor Meaux, a First-Team All District choice a season ago and an Angelina College commit, is a first base and outfield swingman whose solid frame carries a lot of natural power to the White Oak lineup. Versatile utility player Brandon Cook will bring above-average speed and reliable contact skills anywhere he plays. Starting second baseman Heath Hood is an athletic specimen whose range and glove give Coach Stagner a trustworthy presence up the middle of White Oak’s infield.

A ball club heavy in stars, the Roughnecks’ supernova remains Elijah Trest. A lean righty already committed to Arkansas, Trest relies on a good fastball and a hammer of a curveball. At the plate, Trest has an easy swing that provides solid lift, making him a must-see two-way player. Adding more punch to a dynamic starting staff is Layton Anderson, a right-hander who’s still filling into his 6’1 frame. A kid with a pretty good fastball and control of all of his pitches, Anderson is another player to keep an eye on as White Oak charges into the new year.
