season preview
The Prosper Eagles and Head Coach Rick Carpenter enter the 2017 season with high expectations. And why not, they return five hitters and three pitchers from a team that finished 26-13 last year. The Eagles have a good amount of pitching depth, including three left-handers, highlighted by junior Taylor Pendley. Last year Pendley, a Texas Tech commit, finished with a 7-1 record en route to winning All-District Newcomer of the year. Jake Cosner is an uncommitted sophomore that went 6-1 last year with a miniscule 1.64 ERA, earning 2nd Team All District. Look for juniors Spencer Cochran and Kyle Jessen to solidify a quality staff along with senior Jamie Janco.
If Prosper wants to make a post season run this year, they will need to improve their offensive output. Fortunately, they return their leading hitter in senior first baseman Zach Wilson. Last season, Wilson batted .370 with 37 RBI and was selected 1st Team All District. Senior shortstop Easton Murrell, an Arkansas commit, will anchor the defense in the middle of the field. With the return of centerfielder Kendall Foster, a recent West Virginia commit, the Eagles have a legitimate base stealing threat that shows great instincts and athleticism. Coach Carpenter will have his pick of two senior catchers with Cade McBride and Jacob Scott. McBride, an uncommitted senior, was 1st Team All District last year with 4 homeruns and 24 RBI. Look for Jackson Vines and Braden Webb to round out the rest of the infield. Some predictions have Prosper as the front-runner to win their district, and with all of the talent on the field it will be a fun team to watch this spring.
