Season Outlook
The 2017 Choctaw Yellowjackets will look to build on a successful 2016 campaign as they return seven position players, two pitchers, and show legitimate depth at every position on the field. With no true super star on the roster, the Yellowjackets will rely on a true team effort to make a run a state championship.
On the mound, Choctaw may lean on two right-handers, junior Hudson Woods and sophomore Caden Young for front line innings. Junior transfer Lucas Bradley, a big bodied left-hander, could step in and make an immediate impact as well. Senior Zach Stearns, an experienced reliever, could stay at the back end of the pen or make a possible move to the starting rotation. Two other freshman have also shown flashes of what it will take to help on the mound, RHP Levi Denny and LHP Jordan Brewer. Seniors Tanner Eads and Dylan Weaver will bring leadership to the young staff.
Offensively, the Yellowjackets will be lead again by senior Shane Creek hitting in the heart of the order. Brock Schreiner will likely set the table for the offense with his high-end speed. Senior Corey Creek, along with a trio of juniors, Ethan Crews, Dalton Smith, and Collin Armstrong could round out the middle of the order. Seniors Taran Clark and Christian Smay will bring some pop and experience to the deep lineup.
Defensively, Choctaw will again be lead by Shane Creek at shortstop. The rangy Schreiner will likely join in the middle infield along with will Crews at third base. Versatile sophomore Chaz Atwood will add even more depth to the infield. With the loss of one of the top freshman catchers in the country, Cooper Harris, sophomores Tyler Collier and William Emerson will be called on the catch the majority of the innings. Corey Creek will lead the outfield from right and provide leadership for up and coming freshmen Angel Ackerman and sophomore Bryce Greene.
