Spring Forward: Power Hitters

With the fall finally wrapped up and the 2017 baseball season coming to an end, we take another extremely way too early look and preview into the 2018 high school season. With this Spring Forward segment we will highlight players to watch over the high school season, separated by categories that are listed below. Today we take our second look into the power hitters to watch for the 2018 high school season. Before Christmas, we will have looked into the following categories:

Again, its important to note that this isn't a rankings based list. This is simply players that we as a PBR scouting staff have had the opportunity to see on multiple occasions.

For the sake of attempting to highlight the most amount of players possible, we are going to exclude a few players who have already made this Spring Forward segment as hitters to watch in Kody Milton, JP Murphy, Jose Rivera, and Maxwell Costes. All four of these players have been highlighted as hitters to watch, but all also contain some special ability with their power tool as well. So now lets take a look at a few of the other players around the state with some high end pop at the plate.

SPRING FORWARD: POWER HITTERS

Paul Nixon 1B / RHP / Archbishop Curley , MD / 2018

Nixon might have the most raw power at the plate of any hitter in the Old Line state. The Archbishop Curley star poses big time power potential at the plate that is evident watching his batting practice. As Nixon continues to develop at the plate, he could post up some serious power numbers. Nixon is committed to Harford CC.

Tyler DeMartino 3B / OF / Whitman, MD / 2019

DeMartino has been the hottest hitter in the state it seems since the start of the summer playing with the Evoshield Canes. The right handed hitter has shown that there aren't many fastballs that can beat him at the plate, which was especially present down in Jupiter where he barrelled up almost every fastball he saw against top competition. This young hitter is no secret anymore around the state and will be a dynamic bat in the lineup of Walt Whitman this spring. DeMartino is committed to West Virginia.

Brendon Davis 1B / C / Georgetown Prep, MD / 2018

Davis is a strong built hard hitting first baseman at Georgetown Prep. This young right handed hitter shows ability to drive the ball to the gap and his raw power at the plate is evident while taking batting practice. He shows a nice ability to use the whole field while having raw power and making loud contact. As this translates to games, Davis could be in for a nice senior campaign for the little hoyas.

Zachary Roberts OF / 3B / Chopticon, MD / 2018

Roberts has been on of the most intriguing players of the Maryland year as he has transformed his body and really turned himself into a nice prospect on a talented Chopticon team this 2018 season. Roberts will be an explosive bat in the lineup who should also hit for average and has added sub 7.0 speed that gives him versatility around the diamond. His power ability provided with a pretty deep lineup will give him ample opportunity to drive in runs and knock a few out of the park this spring.

Jack Bulger C / RHP / DeMatha, MD / 2020

The youngest player on this list, Bulger proved in his freshmen season at DeMatha that he is a talented force at the plate. A quick an explosive bat at the plate, Bulger should continue to develop this spring and we wouldn't be surprised if he puts up some impressive numbers this season. The young man had a 103 mph exit velocity as a freshman, and he has only got stronger and more explosive since then. Bulger recently committed to Vanderbilt this past week.

Tyler Locklear 3B / C / Archbishop Curley, MD / 2019

Another Archbishop Curley talent on this list, Locklear has a physical athletic frame and shows the ability to make loud contact at the plate. After a successful summer and fall that ended with a commitment to VCU, Locklear could be a candidate for a breakout season this year for Curley.
