Southern WI Prospect ID: Infield Analysis

Today we take a look at the infielders from the Southern Wisconsin Prospect ID. A strong group of infielders was led by Noah Jensen (Tremper, 2015) who displayed good footwork and advanced actions defensively. He showed the best arm strength across the diamond at 81 mph. Another high level prospect is Nathan Brown (Arrowhead, 2016) who showed excellent actions with a long projectable frame. Brown has a tremendously high ceiling and will be interesting to watch going forward.
Here's a look at the top infield prospects.
Top Infielders
1. Noah Jensen, SS, Tremper, 2015
5-foot-10, 155-pound middle infielder, athletic build. Defensively showed advanced actions, soft hands, plays through the ball well, quick footwork, 7.01 runner, exchange is clean, excellent body control, played well on the move. Arm plays well across the diamond, showed carry at 81 mph, high ¾ slot, loose arm action with accuracy, athletic arm action with release. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride, toe tap double stride. Solid balance through contact. Showed bat speed, 84 mph exit velocity from the tee, swing produced whip through contact, short path, line drive hitter, occasional pull tendency, athletic approach.
2. Nathan Brown, RHP/SS, Arrowhead, 2016
Lanky frame, projectable build, 6-foot-2, 175-pound two-way player. On the mound shows high level projectability. Tall and fall delivery, regular effort, athletic delivery, good direction, stays online. Arm action is long and loose, free and easy arm, high ¾ arm slot. Fastball showed excellent run, slight sink, showed command of the zone, 82-83 mph. Slider showed short quick biting action, 70-73 mph, 10/4 plane, showed the ability to command it, advanced pitch. Changeup showed advanced action, plus potential pitch, advanced fading action to his arm side, showed excellent feel, 72-74 mph. Curveball worked on 11/5 plane, 68-71 mph. Defensively played through the ball well on the infield, soft hands with clean transfer. Arm played well at 77 mph across the diamond, loose arm action with carry and accuracy. Offensively hits from a wide, open stance, short stride. Great path to the baseball, short path with extension, gap to gap hitter. Excellent bat speed, 86 mph exit velocity, athletic finish with strong balance.
3. Connor Moroder, 3B, Pewaukee, 2015
Strong build, 6-foot-2, 185-pound left handed hitting third baseman. Defensively displayed advanced actions, soft hands with clean fluid actions. Short arm action gets rid of the ball quickly, loose athletic arm, plays well moving laterally. High ¾ arm slot with accuracy and carry, 80 mph across the diamond. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride, lower half works well with stable balance through finish. Short path, hands work well, late trigger, occasional opposite field tendencies. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. 7.65 runner in the 60.
4. Andrew Brahier, 3B, Jefferson, 2014
Solid frame, 6-foot-1, 195-pound third baseman. Defensively showed above average range, solid infield actions, hands play athletically. Arm action is loose and accurate, 73 mph across the diamond, glove pat release. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride, minimal load. Shot path, flashed extension, hard contact, worked the middle of the field. 80 mph exit velocity from the tee, rhythmic hitter with mature approach.
5. Sam Swan, MIF, Arrowhead, 2015
5-foot-10, 155-pound switch hitting middle infielder. Defensively showed softness to his hands, quick release and advanced transfer, showed the ability to play through the baseball. Arm action is short and loose, high ¾ slot, athletic arm action with accuracy, quick release 71 mph across the diamond. Offensively hits from both sides, balanced stance, short stride. Showed solid hands from both sides of the plate, line drive hitter, 81 mph exit velocity from the right side, 76 mph from the left side. Ran a 7.29 60.
6. Logan Wonn, RHP/1B, Oconomowoc, 2015
Strong build, wide shoulder, 6-foot-2, 210-pound left handed hitting two-way player. On the mound delivery showed direction with clean mechanics, athletic finish, slightly upright. Works from a high ¾ arm slot, loose arm action. Fastball has a heavy feel, 82-83 mph, consistent sinking action, commanded the zone. Curveball has 11/5 shape, sharp action, aggressive arm speed, excellent feel with control, late action, 70-72 mph. Changeup has fading action, thrown for strikes 75-78 mph. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride. Makes consistent hard contact, occasional lift, short path with extension, power potential. 85 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed solid hands around the bag with an awareness for the position, 77 mph arm across the diamond.
7. McCauley Cox, MIF, Janesville Craig, 2015
Lanky athletic prospect, 6-foot-1, 160-pound left handed hitting middle infielder. Defensively shows athleticism, rangy athlete, hands work, fluid footwork. Arm action is loose and athletic, high ¾ slot, 74 mph across the diamond. Offensively hits from the left side, slightly open stance, short stride. Athletic hands, contact hitter, works the middle of the field, flat bat path, athletic swing. Line drive hitter, with rhythm and bat speed, 73 mph exit velocity. 7.54 runner in the 60.
8. Zac Cain, 1B/RHP, Plymouth, 2015
Lanky build, 6-foot-4, 195-pound two-way player. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride. Hands work, bat speed present, line drive, gap to gap tendencies. Athletic hitter, 87 mph exit velocity. Defensively plays with a loose arm action, 72 mph across the diamond. Feet work athletically, 6.93 runner in the 60. On the mound shows some projection. Tall and fall delivery, regular effort. Short backside arm action, ¾ arm slot. Fastball showed consistent sinking action, showed control, 78-80 mph. Curveball flashed 12/6 action, near fastball arm action, 67-68 mph. Changeup at 69-72 mph.
Best of the Rest (Listed Alphabetically)
Joe Acker, OF/MIF, Marquette University, 2016
5-foot-11, 155-pound outfielder, athletic build. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, smooth loading action, short stride. Lower half works with solid balance. Excellent hands, advanced bat path, short to the baseball with extension, line drive gap to gap tendencies. 83 mph exit velocity from the tee, hard contact. Defensively uses an athletic crow hop in the outfield, plays through the baseball, feet work well. 7.18 runner in the 60. Arm action is long, over the top slot, accurate arm, 84 mph arm from the outfield. On the infield showed solid actions, similar arm action to that in the outfield, 72 mph across the infield.
Hunter Brush, 1B, Holmen, 2015
Strong, 6-foot-3, 225-pound left handed hitting first baseman. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short stride, hands slightly drop at load. Good lower half, produces advanced bat speed, 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Longer path, gets extension. Pull side power approach, some lift, strong swing, athletic hands. Defensively stays in front of the baseball. Arm action is over the top, slightly longer, occasional carry, 78 mph across the diamond. Ran a 8.18 60.
Jake Hall, SS, Lake County Lutheran, 2016
5-foot-8, 150-pound right handed hitting middle infielder, shows strength. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, arm bar load, no stride, heel lift trigger. Lower half worked, showed good balance throughout. Showed bat speed, uphill path, athletic approach, lacks top hand, 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm played at 69 mph across the diamond, over the top slot, short firm arm action, showed accuracy. 7.58 runner in the 60.
Adam Klos, SS, West Salem, 2015
Long frame, lanky build, 6-foot-3, 190-pound middle infielder. Offensively hits from a tall setup, short stride, toe tap trigger. Lower half works, occasional hard contact. Uphill path, hits off back side, 77 mph exit velocity. Defensively plays with a long arm action, ¾ arm slot, some accuracy, 70 mph across the diamond. 7.51 runner in the 60.
Cameron Kolbe, RHP/1B, Appleton North, 2017
6-foot-2, 245-pound two way player, strong build. Tall and fall approach on the mound, easy effort, works online, upright finish. Arm action is short and loose, clean arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball has occasional run, thrown for strikes, 76-78 mph. Breaking ball had gradual 11/5 action, 62-64 mph. Showed feel for his changeup, sinking action, 65-68 mph. Offensively hits from a balanced stance slightly open, short stride. Hard contact, long path, occasional pull power tendencies.
Austin Meunier, MIF, Oconomowoc, 2016
Slender build, 5-foot-8, 125-pound, left handed hitting middle infielder. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, short loading action, short stride. Swing shows repeatability, flat path, 70 mph exit velocity. Defensively uses a slightly longer arm action, arm played at 64 mph across the diamond, showed fluid footwork.
Jacob Passow, 3B/RHP, Germantown, 2017
Athletic build, 6-foot-1, 165-pound two way player. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, quick load, short stride. Good path, two piece swing, 76 mph exit velocity. Defensively arm action is long from an over the top slot, 69 mph across the diamond. On the mound arm action is similar to that on the infield, regular effort. Fastball flashed arm side action, 67-69 mph. Curveball works on 11/5 plane, 60-62 mph. Changeup had sink, 61-64 mph, thrown with fastball arm speed.
Kyle Sinclair, INF, Bradford, 2016
5-foot-10, 175-pound infielder. Defensively uses a long arm action, high ¾ arm slot, showed accuracy, 77 mph across the diamond, some carry. 7.94 runner in the 60. Offensively hit from an open stance, circle loading action, leg kick trigger, lower half works. Loose hands, occasional pull side approach. 74 mph exit velocity from the tee.
