Southern WI Prospect ID: Catching Analysis

Throughout the week we will break down the Southern Wisconsin Prospect ID Showcase by positions, bringing you scouting reports of every player in attendance. Today we start with the catchers. Hayden Houts stood out as the top catching prospect swinging an aggressive stick from the left side while posting the best pop times of the event.

Here’s a look at all the catching prospects from this event.

Top Catching Prospects

1. Hayden Houts, C, Owen-Withee, 2015
5-foot-10, 180-pound left handed hitting catcher, build shows strength. Offensively hits from an open stance, short stride. Lower half worked, solid balance through contact. Pull side approach, slightly uphill bat path, smooth swing, low ball type hitter. Defensively showed above average hands behind the plate, short arm action, over the top slot, 72 mph out of the crouch with accuracy. Posted pop times of 2.11-2.19.

2. Jack Jensen, C, Tremper, 2016
5-foot-10, 170-pound catcher. Defensively showed the ability to properly block the baseball. Exchange is clean, long transfer. Arm action is short, over the top slot, showed excellent accuracy delivering almost every throw on the bag, arm played at 68 mph. Posted pop times of 2.28-2.33. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, heel lift trigger, solid balance through contact. 71 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Michael Haugh, C, Bradford, 2015
Solid build, 5-foot-10, 175-pound catcher. Defensively showed a short arm action, over the top arm slot, 70 mph out of the crouch. Posted pop times ranging from 2.19-2.26. Offensively hits from a balanced setup, short stride, smooth load. Shows bat speed, level path, flashed extension, line drive type hitter, shows whip. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee.

Joe Nettesheim, C, Oconomowoc, 2015
6-foot, 180-pound catcher. Offensively hits from a balanced stance, athletic setup, short stride, high hands. Steep path, occasional extension, 63 mph exit velocity. Defensively posted pop times at 2.18-2.32. Arm action is short, over the top, showed accuracy, long transfer. Arm played at 73 mph from the crouch.

Joe Pounders, C, Bradford, 2016
5-foot-8, 170-pound catcher. Offensively hits from a slightly open stance, arm bar load, slightly open stride. Hits off back side, uphill path, 78 mph exit velocity. Defensively used a long arm action from a high ¾ slot, posted pop times of 2.29-2.43. Arm played at 65 mph out of the crouch.
