LEANDER, TX – The Rouse Raiders and Bastrop Bears met up to finalize the first round of district play. Rouse entered the game with an 11-4-1 record, while the Bears had posted a 7-9-1 record.
Taking the mound for Rouse was 2019 RHP Jared Southard, Texas recruit and No. 10 ranked prospect in Texas. Bastrop would counter with 2019 RHP Cameron Frost.
Southard and Frost were equally effective through five innings, neither allowing a run. But in the bottom of the sixth inning, Rouse would put two runs on the board. Senior catcher Cody Vannoy led the Raiders' charge with a leadoff double to the left-center gap. Vannoy advanced to third base on an infield single by junior Hayden Thomas, and both runners scored on a hard shot single through the infield by senior Michael Vasquez.
Southard worked into the sixth inning before exiting the game with two on and no outs. Rouse sent senior LHP Danny O’Donnell into the game. O’Donnell immediately gave up a walk to load the bases, but shut the potential rally down with three straight strikeouts. O’Donnell would finish out the seventh and pick up the win. Bastrop was only able to tack up 4 hits in the contest. Final score, Rouse 2, Bastrop 0.
