In a 6-3 loss to eventual PAISAA champion Malvern Prep last May, Episcopal Academy's Kyle Virbitsky was the only Churchman to tally multiple hits in the game. The then freshman barreled up two different low-80s arms, while also showing solid actions and arm strength at shortstop.
Two and a half months later, at the PBR Mid-Atlantic Border Battle, he used his 85-mph exit velocity to drive two doubles on the weekend. The really intriguing part of his performance, however, came from his two innings on the mound. At 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, Virbitsky sat 77-80 with his fastball out of a high-3/4 slot. He commanded a big curveball at 67-69 and flashed a change-up at 70-72 as well. With his long, clean armstroke, it is just a matter of time before he makes a velocity jump.
Virbitsky's EA squad returns virtually its entire line-up this spring, although will need to find a way to replace the majority of its innings in order to challenge Inter-Ac favorites Malvern Prep and Penn Charter.
