New Episode LIVE now! - At The Yard
San Juan Capistrano, Calif - Jordan Jaffe is one of the more interesting players that I have gotten multiple looks at. The thing that has stood out to me is the strength gains that he has continued to make time and time again. He now has a real physical presence that helps him look the part of a future impact college player. Was happy I got to check in with Jaffe and the Calabasas team once this year where he hit an RBI opposite field double against one of the Marmonte league’s best in Cole Miller. Jaffe was a top of the order bat and a leader for a Calabasas team that got to the D3 Quarterfinals this year and had a winning season for the first time since 2018. After a successful State Games last year, a standout performance at the Area Code ID’s powered by PBR, and a solid junior campaign for the Coyotes, we were happy to have him at our Procase where he was able to hold his own against California’s best.
The Report:
Body: 6-3, 195 pounds. A larger frame that has filled out nicely. Longer limbs with strength present throughout.
Hit: RHH. Is upright and straight up with his feet in his stance. Gets engaged with his backside as he loads with some good internal rotation. The upper half then starts a slight tilt and leans over home plate. The swing itself is more handsy and compact. Over spun some balls by being a little too steep but found his groove later into BP with some more on-plane level swings. Gets onto his frontside at finish but gets extended and stays through. Looked to get out in front of balls for a more pull side approach in BP.
Power: Present pull side power with 4 HRs in his BP. Max exit velo during his session was 99.6 which was the same ball he hit the farthest which went 397.4 over the LF fence. This exit velo is highest exit velo he has ever had at one of our events which is a good sign considering he posted a 98 mph exit velo before the start of season with an aluminum bat. Bat speed’s were above average with max bat speed of 76.2 mph and average bat speed of 72 mph.
Field: Good footwork for his size. Has light feet and fields heel to toe. Lateral range is there. Especially comfortable to the forehand side. Fields out in front and creates momentum towards the bag. Smooth glovework especially with his quick exchanges to his throwing hand. Made five putouts during game action.
Arm: 81 mph from SS. We have had him as high as 83 across the diamond in past events. Quick compact arm action when making throws. Showed ability to make throws on the run and from different arm angles. ⅚ accurate throws in his defensive workout.
Run: 7.25 laser timed 60. Downhill athletic runner. Good long strides and a quiet head.
Summary: Jaffe has solidified himself as one of the best uncommitted players left in the state. In his junior season he put up solid stats: .321 AVG with 2 HR 19 runs and 6 doubles. With how big and strong he has become he’ll probably have to make the move to 3B eventually but it should be a seamless transition because of his quickness and glove skills. There is some present swing and miss at the plate but the power is there and with some small swing adjustments some of that swing and miss can be corrected. Excited to see what the finished product will be by the end of HS as all Jaffe does is continue to get better.
