ORANGE, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft completed on June 5th, and on June 8th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the SoCal ProCase. A select group of players were chosen to participate in this exclusive event geared toward high level collegiate and draft prospects.
Players were put through a pro-style workout - 60 yard dash, exit velocity testing, BP, defensive workout - before participating in scout ball format game that saw eight pitchers toe the rubber. PBR California scouting staff collected various stats/data during the workout and game which can be found HERE.

In this edition of the SoCal ProCase Spotlight we highlight:
OF BRETT MCCAULEY (REDONDO UNION HS)
2020 OF Brett McCauley, Oregon commit, is listed at 6-0, 187 medium-to-large frame with present strength in the athletic, young body. McCauley strength was on display on June 8th during batting practice and in the outfield. Flashes a gap-to-gap approach with power to the right side. He shows athleticism in the outfield and can make plays in the gaps with the athleticism to stay in center at the next level. McCauley makes consistent loud contact.
McCauley started the day off recording a 60 time of 7.09 and a 4.71 home-to-first time showing quick feet, medium stride and is a threat on the base path. McCauley then moved onto hitting where he recorded a 91 MPH exit velo following it up with three solid rounds of batting practice, spraying the ball around the field. Shows a gap-to-gap approach, making loud consistent contact as he used the whole field. Very quiet at the plate operating from a slightly closed setup resting hands on the back shoulder, with a small toe tap; McCauley has a quick swing, compact showing some power to the opposite field being balanced and consistent at the plate.
McCauley was one of the more impressive outfielders on the day recording an outfield velo of 86 mph which tying him for 1st on the top velo. It's a strong arm, carrying through the ball and having accurate throws. McCauley was one of the more athletic outfielders on the day excelling in every category. He covers a lot of ground in the outfield and can play all three outfield spots. Is smooth in the outfield, gets to the ball with ease and has loose hips. Gets good reads off the bat, strong first step having awareness and the aggressive belief that he can make every play. Shows smart instincts in the outfield.
McCauley had a strong junior season where he batted .470 with 40 RBIs putting himself on the map as a player to watch. His advanced approach at the plate and athleticism in the outfield are big tools and fits well as a perfect 2-hole hitter who can make consistent loud contact. I see McCauley continuing the momentum from his junior season through the summer and into his senior year. He will be a player to keep an eye on for the collegiate level but also for the 2020 draft.
