SoCal ProCase Spotlight: C Tyler Imbach

ORANGE, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft completed on June 5th, and on June 8th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the SoCal ProCase. A select group of players were chosen to participate in this exclusive event geared toward high level collegiate and draft prospects.

Players were put through a pro-style workout - 60 yard dash, exit velocity testing, BP, defensive workout - before participating in scout ball format game that saw eight pitchers toe the rubber. In this edition of the SoCal ProCase Spotlight we highlight:

C TYLER IMBACH (PALOS VERDES HS)

2020 C Tyler Imbach is listed at 6-1, 180 pounds medium frame, long, athletic, wiry strength with physical projection remaining. Imbach shows quick hands behind the plate, strong footwork and makes accurate throws. He has that classic left-handed swing, hitting for contact and power. Frame that can add strength and become more of a threat at the plate. Imbach is very athletic for a catcher, starting the day off with a 7.26 60-yard dash recording the fastest time of all the catchers. He then went on to record a home-to-first time of 4.6. Has a medium stride, quick feet and can steal a bag. Gets a strong first step out of the box.

At the plate, Imbach shows a gap approach, showing more strength to the pull side and up the middle. Compact line drive swing, very smooth classic left-handed swing. During BP went on to the hit around the wheel, where he showed some pop putting a couple over the fence. Operates from an open set-up, hands by the shoulder and a small leg lift doing a nice job of transferring weight onto the back leg. Shows quick hands, line drive approach, making consistent contact (87 MPH). Imbach is just scratching the surface of his offensive potential. He flashed some power this spring and I believe he will continue to add to that as he continues to add strength.

Defensively Imbach shows athleticism behind the plate, quick footwork and athletic actions. He recorded a 78 MPH throw from behind the plate with pop-time ranging from 2.04-2.18. I’ve seen Imbach several times this past spring and his pop-time ranged from 1.94-2.04 and showed a strong arm behind the dish, makes accurate throws with quick hands. During the ProCase he did a solid job carrying through the throw, helping ball to stay accurate. Strong job receiving and worked well with his pitchers. Worked behind the plate showing the skills and blocking the dirtball with quick reflexes.

Imbach is an athletic catcher showing wiry strength and physical projection remaining. He's still young and can still add strength. Imbach made a big leap this year cementing himself as a player to watch. In a loaded 2020 catcher class Imbach might get overlooked, but that would be a mistake.
