PODCAST: SoCal ProCase Recap
ORANGE, CA. - The 2019 MLB Draft completed on June 5th, and on June 8th, it was time to turn our attention to the 2020 class at the SoCal ProCase. A select group of players were chosen to participate in this exclusive event geared toward high level collegiate and draft prospects.
Players were put through a pro-style workout - 60 yard dash, exit velocity testing, BP, defensive workout - before participating in scout ball format game that saw eight pitchers toe the rubber. PBR California scouting staff collected various stats/data during the workout and game which can be found HERE.

In this edition of the SoCal ProCase Spotlight we highlight:
3B/1B Kyle Karros (Mira Costa HS)
Rising senior 3B/1B an UCLA commit, listed at 6-5, 195 pounds shows a tall lean frame, with current strength and physical projection. Karros is a young rising senior who turns 17 this summer. He is a smooth fielding 3B, fields the ball properly on glove side and funnels the ball well out front. He showed a gap-to-gap approach with more pull side on the day; average speed for his size although he gains lots of ground with his long strides. Has the present arm strength and defensive ability to stay at third.
Karros started the day off recording a 7.21 60-yard dash. His athleticism indicates that he could continue to add speed as he matures and adds strength. Recorded a 91 MPH exit velo using a wood bat. Karros showed off his hit tool with a solid three rounds of batting practice. Operates from a taller set-up at the plate, hands high by the back of the head and good use of the lower-half. Is smooth at the plate and quiet. He showed more pull-side approach, does flash gap-to-gap ability and is able to use the whole field with flashes of power. He makes consistent hard contact, driving the ball to the gaps and up the middle, with a compact swing. Karros has a tall frame that plays really well, as he flashes some pop. Has some power, will add more when he continues to mature physically, remember he’s currently 16 years old. Showed well during the in-game portion of the day at the plate.
Karros had a solid day on the dirt. His athletic actions were on display showing himself to be a smooth fielding infielder with nimble and controlled footwork at third base. His defensive development from last year to this can’t be understated. It’s as though Karros feels more comfortable in his body now and with his developing strength the athleticism is beginning to come to light. He takes strong angles to the ball, funnels the ball and fields from down to up. He has enough athleticism and range to stay at third with plenty of arm to make throws from all angles. He has strong range, cover a lot of ground on the dirt and can make the play in the 5-6 hole. Recorded a velo from 3rd of 81 MPH. Karros can also play first where he can pick it and his athleticism really plays up.
Karros made strides this year as a defensive and as an offensive player. Karros proved this year that he has the arm strength, and the range, to play third base erasing any doubt people may have had. He shows proper mechanics and is a very clean fielder. He shows a gap-to-gap approach and is scratching the surface of his power. He did hit for power but I feel he is going to be adding more doubles in the upcoming high school season. He was a force in the Mira Costa line up and thrived against top pitching all year. Karros’s junior season put him on the map for a player to keep an eye on heading into the summer and his senior season.
