LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - With HS league play coming to a close and the playoffs in sight we have been privy to several clutch performances these last few weeks. Because of the amount of standout performances around the region choosing one player for our Player of the Week honor was quite difficult.  

Congratulations are in order for Freshman Anthony Murphy out of Corona HS as he has been awarded the SoCal Player of the Week for the week of April 17th - April 22nd, 2023. 

Murphy, came up big last week offensively for the Panthers going 6/13 with 3 HRs. It was a huge 4 game week for Corona where they took 2 of 3 from Santiago and had a huge win over a fellow Power 25 team in Etiwanda. Murphy is the #6 ranked 2026 in CA and is one of only a few freshmen throughout the state making a considerable impact as a starter on Varsity. Murphy has hit at or near the top of the order for a deep Corona team throughout the entire spring. He is an uber-athletic OF that has advanced tools for his age which includes his bat which has performed consistently throughout this spring. He is currently slashing a strong .341/.385/500. It’s a controlled/simple RH swing where his hands stay quiet and load his barrel to consistent launch position which allows his quick hands to be on-time and be able to adjust (video of some swings below). Murphy is a big reason why Corona currently sits at #6 in our CA Power 25 Rankings and in 1st place in their league.
