Sliders Scout Day: Quick Hits (2022)

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

SAN ANTONIO, TX - On Sunday, we attended The South Texas Sliders Scout Day for the third year in a row. There was a ton of talent on display from the 2020-2023 classes at the University of Incarnate Word’s brand new facility. Already we have covered the 2020 and 2021 Classes with Quick Hits Scout Notes, today we bring you the 2022 class.

2022 Carson Laws (Antonian College Prep) has a high-waisted frame at 5-foot-11, 145-pounds, and shows quality rhythm and a leveraged hack with strength in his hands (88 exit). He threw 85 from the outfield and was 81-83 a couple hours later during the game. Works from a high-¾ slot with a quick hand out front that creates some sink to finish. Flashed a 73-74 mph slider during warmups and threw one changeup at 77.

2022 LHP/OF Justin Lamkin (Calallen HS) stands 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. The left-hander works from ¾ slot with a short arm stroke. His fastball showed some life at 80-83 mph, and he throws a deep bending breaking ball at 65-67 mph.

2022 C/2B Coy Pierce (Needville HS) has a great setup for a young right-handed hitter and uses a balanced leg kick to create a leveraged hack with a top exit velocity of 83 mph. He threw strikes to second base with a top velocity from the crouch of 74 mph and pop times of 2.01-2.13.

2022 SS/RHP Cole Todd (Needville HS) ran one of the best times of the day for his grad class at 6.97. Line drive approach during BP, he gets his hands back early and the barrel stays in the zone for a long time. Plays with a bounce in his step on the infield and threw 81 mph across the diamond.

2022 RHP/SS Dallas Novicke (East Bernard HS) has a strong frame for a freshman at 6-foot, 180-pounds. Working from an over the top slot his fastball was 78-81 and had good feel for a downer curveball at 66-70 mph.

2022 RHP/OF Erick Perez (Hebbronville HS) works from a high-¾ slot with a quick arm stroke. His fastball has arm side life at 80-83, and he throws a big breaking slurve at 64-66 with slight elbow drop.

2022 RHP/C John Michael Ramirez (Brandeis HS) is already strong for his age at 6-foot, 190 with broad shoulders. His fastball topped out at 82 once, sitting mostly 79-80. Showed a sharp breaker at 72-75. A two-way player and right-handed hitter, Ramirez has strong hands and quick bat through the zone that made loud contact and produced a 92 exit velocity. The arm strength translates behind the plate where he threw 74 mph from the crouch and posted pop times of 2.1-2.18.

2022 RHP/1B Jack Jouett (Clark HS) has strong frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds. The right-handed hitter posted a 92 mph exit velocity during batting practice and has simple strength and a flat path. On the mound, he pitched off his fastball at 80-83.

2022 SS Jalin Flores (Brandies HS) is a projectable young shortstop at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. The right-handed hitter has a short stroke and laced line drives during BP, including one home run.

2022 3B Cole Karnowski (Ridge Point HS) has plenty of room to add strength as he continues to grow into his long, lanky 6-foot-1, 140-pound frame. The left-handed hitter has a balanced hack with some life in his hands, and even though the measurables are not there yet, he could be a solid follow over the next couple years.
