Several prospects pick their schools

John A. Logan JC landed another Chicago Public League standout when it received a commitment from Kenwood Academy RHP/OF Joba Ferrell. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Ferrell is a top-level athlete who possesses significant arm strength from the outfield and on the mound (has been up to 90 mph). A four-year varsity starter, Ferrell was invited to USA Baseball’s Tournament of Stars and Breakthrough Series over the summer. As a junior, Ferrell tallied 20 RBI, 4 doubles, 5 triples and 2 home runs.
John A. Logan previously got a commitment from Morgan Park SS DeJohn Suber, who’s arguably the top defensive middle infielder in the state.
Mark Chemello, a 6-foot, 180-pound RHP from Lincoln-Way East HS, has committed to St. Joseph’s College. Lincoln-Way East made a surprising run to the Class 4A supersectionals in large part because of Chemello’s emergence as the team’s dominant No. 1. The right-hander finished with a 9-1 record, which included a critical complete-game shutout against rival Lincoln-Way North in sectionals. Chemello, who fills up the zone with three pitches, ended with a 1.88 ERA with 47 strikeouts to 7 walks in 52 innings last spring.
Jeremy Stawychny, a sophomore RHP from Heartland CC, has committed to Lee University. Stawychny, who went 4-1 last season, played his prep ball at Leyden HS.
Jeff Gersch from Joliet West HS has committed to Spalding University.
