Senior Superlatives: Most Projectable Position Player

PBR Georgia Staff

It has been a busy few weeks for Prep Baseball Report and PBR Georgia regarding the Class of 2020 and the approaching 2020 MLB Draft. First, we had the update of the
2020 National Rankings, with Georgia being well-represented, followed by the combined High School, Junior College and College 2020 Draft Board. Extending over the next few weeks, we are going to dive into the 2020 Georgia rankings and give our take on the prospects who possess the top tools in the state. Yesterday, we began by looking at the top-5 left-handed bats, top-5 right-handed batstop power hitterstop speedtop defensive outfielderstop defensive catchers, and top defensive shortstops in the state. Today, we look at the top-5 most projectable position players in the state's 2020 class.

Most Projectable Position Players

Jordan Walker 3B / RHP / Decatur, GA / 2020

Duke recruit, one of the top draft prospects in the 2020 class, currently ranked No. 1 in Georgia, No. 33 overall. Physical specimen, stands 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, lean, athletic build with proportional strength and plenty of room for continued physical development. Showed up shortly before Team Elite’s second game of the day and proceeded to make his presence known in each of his three at-bats. First, he roped a double to right center field, and followed it with a line-drive single to left field. Then he topped it off with a laser home run, 105-mph off the bat, that cleared the left field wall in a nanosecond. Quick-twitch athlete, generates plus bat speed with little effort; for his size and length, he stays connected. Present power with more projection in the future.

Garrett Spikes OF / Mountain View, GA / 2020

Sneaky good athlete and future prospect, stands a physical 6-foot-3, 200-pounds.  Left-handed stroke with some bat-speed and a body to project on.  Actions are a little big defensively at SS, but he makes the plays he is supposed and even the ones is not suppose too.

John Marant OF / Sandy Creek, GA / 2020

Marant has an impressive frame at 6-foot-5, 200-pounds.  He posses a strong tool set as an outfielder with projection still left to everything he does.  Marant will need to refine his approach, but is blessed with a serious set of unteachable skills.

Brayden Broome SS / OF / Ringgold, GA / 2020

Broome seems to get better every time I see him, and at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, he has an excellent frame and has room to get even stronger. His game is smooth both in the box and defensively. He relies on fluid actions and good rhythm for the game. The bat has really started to come and he does it with an upright stance, with high hands and a leg lift that he picks up and puts down without getting too far out on his front side. The power during batting practice played better than his exit velocity of 86 mph would indicate. He’s an up-the-middle defender who can play both center and shortstop, and plays both with an easy gait and fluid actions. Watching Broome reminds me of a young Jordy Mercer, both in terms of actions, body, and strength at this age. Broome has a chance to make big strides over the next year and is one to keep a close eye on.

Brad Grenkoski OF / RHP / Kell , GA / 2020

From Kell, Grenkoski showed up as a two-player for the scouts in attendance. He has above-average arm strength off the mound and in the outfield and is one of the older members of this 2020 class. He’s tooled-up across the board and is primed for a big spring, but he’ll need to answer some questions regarding his hit tool, that’ll determine just how much of his strength and power he’ll get to in games.
