Section 5 Playoff Breakdown

Spots in the Far West Regionals are on the table Tuesday with sectional play-off games in the four classifications. Here’s the breakdown:

Class A

Canandaigua (14-9) vs. Aquinas (12-8)

No. 5 Canandaigua upended top-seeded Greece Arcadia in the A1 semi-finals and then took down perennial champion Pittsford-Sutherland for the Braves first title in 21 years. Brothers Cody (.439/23 RBI) and Tanner Cooper (.333/4 W/64 K/1.23 ERA) lead Canandaigua. Aquinas edged No. 1 seed Batavia in the A2 finals for its first championship since taking BB crown in 2012. A2 Tournament MVP Max Swartz held Batavia to one run on seven hits in the championship game.

Class B

Livonia (22-1) vs. North-Rose Wolcott (15-4)

Led by Section 5 Class B Player of the Year, Maddux Minton and teammate Reid VanScoter, Livonia is looking for its third straight title and a shot at returning to the state championship game. The Bulldogs, ranked No.1 in the state, won their three sectional games by a combined score of 27-1. No. 3 seed North-Rose Wolcott upset Wellsville and Mynderse en route to the school’s first sectional title. Dustin Reed grabbed Tournament MVP honors going 2-for-4 with an RBI and tossing a 3-hitter in the 4-2 win over Mynderse in the championship.

Class C

Avon (18-3) vs. Bolivar-Richburg (19-2)

Top-seeded Avon took a pair of 2-1 decisions over Alexander and No. 2 seed Sodus to claim the C1 title. John Ceneviva drove in both runs while Brandon Gingher notched the win over Sodus in the championship game. C2 Player of the Year Allen Murphy hurled a complete as Bolivar-Richburg defeated Oakfield-Alabama for its third sectional title in four years.  The Wolverines shut out their first three sectional opponents.

Class D

Genesee Valley (14-5) vs. Arkport (16-5)

Genesee Valley won its second straight title. Carter Schneider had four hits and drove in five runs in the Jaguars semi-final win. Gabe Lewis hurled 4.1 shutout innings in relief as Arkport downed Prattsburgh, 4-3 for the D2 championship.
