Arkansas Scouting Director
With teams from across the state wrapping up their preseason practice schedule we had the opportunity to discuss the upcoming season with Lonoke Head Coach Darrick Lowery about his 2015 team as they look to capture another conference title and state tournament appearance.
PBR: What are your expectations for your team this spring?
Lowery: I expect our team to compete very well in our conference and our classification. We should compete for one of the top spots in our conference.
PBR: Who is going to be your key contributors on the mound this spring?
Lowery: 2015: Cody Martin
2015 Christian James
2016 Savonte Rountree
2017 Haven Hunter
PBR: For your offense to be effective who do you expect to set the table? Who do you expect to drive in runs?
Lowery: Offensively it starts with Casey Martin and Haven Hunter being able to get on base and put pressure on the defense. I expect Nick Graves, Christian James and Cody Martin to be our leaders driving in runs.
PBR: Which Seniors are you going to lean on for leadership?
Lowery: Cody Martin, Christian James, Nick Graves, and Elijah Seigrist will lead this group through the 2015 season. They have been key contributors for us for the past three years.
PBR: Which Underclassmen do you need to step up and fill a void by last year’s seniors?
Lowery: 2017 Haven Hunter and 2017 Caleb Horton
PBR: Who is the team to beat in your conference/ your classification?
Lowery: I look for Newport to be the team to beat in conference play and Arkadelphia is the back-back defending state champions so you would to put them as the favorite to win the state title again.
PBR: What is your biggest non-conference game and why?
Lowery: Hamburg, March 17th at UALR: This is a great measuring stick game leading into conference play against a very good team. Harding Academy, April 21st at Harding University another good opponent to prepare us for the district tournament
PBR: What tournaments is your team attending this spring?
Lowery: Malvern/ Pulaski Academy Tournament March 2nd-7th
