2019 Outlook:
After graduating 10 seniors this past season, Coach Westlund is hoping that the next influx of young talent to his program doesn’t skip a beat. He is looking to continue his success with a strong defense led up the middle by '19 SS Jorge Lucero to work behind his workhorse on the mound, '19 RHP Antonio Garcia. Garcia threw a no-hitter last year in the playoffs and is looking to build off that success late in the season, looking to lead his team on the mound this season.
Whenever a team graduates a class as big as they did last year there will always be holes to fill, and Coach Westlund is looking for players to step into those roles. Depth on the mound will be an early issue, but if some young arms step up, look for this team to make noise again. Offensively, besides Lucero, there will be a lot of unproven guys on the field. Where the offensive production will come from remains to be seen. But with veteran Coach Westlund at the helm ready to reshape a young roster, don’t sleep on the Spartans who year after year are competing until the very end.
