DAYTON - Behind by a run going into the top of the seventh, Fairfield (13-10) plated four runs and held on to defeat Troy (15-8) by the score of 6-3 in a rare Sunday evening tilt played at Dayton's Fifth Third Field. Fairfield seniors Curtis Olvey (Kent State recruit) and Braden Burdine sparked the comeback with clutch hits. Senior Jake Spalvis pitched three innings of shutout relief to garner the victory.

Fairfield Scouting Notes

• Senior Curtis Olvey (Kent State recruit) led the Indians attack with a pair of hits, including a double, and 2 RBI. He played first base and did not pitch.
• Senior shortstop Tyler Burdine (R-R, 5'11, 180) is an athletic player with good raw skills; shows plus foot speed and good arm strength but appears to be more of 2B/CF type player. Hit the ball hard with 2 hits, including a double that nearly left the yard. 
• Left handed pitcher Jake Spalvis (6'0, 170) did well in relief, mixing in fastball velocity of 78-81 mph with a downward plane curve. 
• Junior third baseman Austin Bryant (R-R, 6'0, 192) who was a catcher at a winter PBR event, is a physically strong player who despite being hitless, drove the ball hard three times. Hits from a slight open stance, showed good load, and squared the barrel on the ball nicely.
• Junior second baseman Chris Rossi (R-R, 5'9, 170) showed good baseball sense and skills. Smallish build. Showed bat speed with a line-drive single to left. Good bat control. Showed ability to hit and run along with bunting skills. Played solid defense with college arm strength. Good foot speed. Coach's type kid who would be right at home in D-2 or NAIA program.
• A pair of sophomores start for the Indians in the outfield: center-fielder Matt Staudigel (L-L 5'6, 150) and left-fielder Kyle Luenaman (L-R, 6'1, 160). Both swung the bat fairly well and will enhance their prospectus with additional physical strength. Both showed defensive range and decent arm strength.

 
Troy Scouting Notes

• Junior shortstop Dylan Cascaden (R-R, 5'10, 180) is a scrappy, get dirty player with good baseball skills. Uses a slightly open stance with quick bat speed and squares barrel on ball for line drives. Doesn't posses great foot speed but not a clogger. Showed some surprising range for stocky type body. Makes the routine plays with left side arm strength. Solid D-2 or NAIA type.
• Junior catcher Ian Nadolny (R-R, 6'1, 190) is another D-2 or NAIA type prospect. Showed defensive ability with good lateral blocking movement. Boxes & frames well. Has solid arm strength. Needs to improve glove to hand exchange on next level (did have a 2.09 game throw). Has compact hitting stroke but needs to enhance backside load to achieve additional power.
