Rookie Review: '25 SS/RHP Ross Yoshida (Nichols School)

What We Liked: An all-around performer, Yoshida started his day off with a loud round of BP, using the whole field and a short, but powerful trigger. Never outswung the body, able to maintain balance behind a stiff front side, and delivered the barrel quickly on inner-half. Posted a T91MPH MEV with T74MPH bat-speed. The middle infielder flashed tempo and range to either side, reaching back for an 84MPH throwing arm. Similar mound success, working efficiently on a four-pitch mix up to 83MPH; really leveraged an 11/5 breaker. Might project to be an arm at the level he'll receive interest. 

What to Improve: There's some room for additional separation in the RH box and power to tap into. The direction/contact skillset is already well developed. 60 time will have to continue heading south, as he can go get the ball to his glove-side. Occasional timing issues on the run, but makes all the plays with a big arm.

Synopsis: As far as tools go, Yoshida fits the bill of a highly recruited two-way in the Sophomore class. We are slightly more bullish on the bump, due to how he adds/subtracts spin at will, coupled with good life on the FB. A full arm-action that shows intriguing flexibility through rotation could suggest an uptick in velocity soon.
