PJ PIESKO, LHP, Oxford HS, 2014

The Oxford HS baseball program is producing some solid talent, especially younger talent in the 2014 recruiting class.  No. 10 Nathan Morris headlines the group with a fastball that has reached 90mph this offseason.

With Morris enjoying a meteoric rise up the ranks, eventually culminating with a scholarship from Michigan State, other players can easily be overshadowed.  Don't get me wrong, Morris deserves a lot of attention. However, PJ Piesko has quietly been making a name for himself and has started to see the fruits of his labor pay off.

This past summer Piesko attended the Southeast Michigan Showcase at Siena Heights University.  On that day he admittedly was not at his best.  But since that time Piesko has worked hard to improve himself and his stock.  Piesko has added about ten pounds of weight and is now 6-foot-1, 160-pounds.  With his added strength he has seen his fastball sit in the 82-83 mph range. Additionally, he has started to receive attention from some Division I schools from inside the state as well as outside the state.

On the mound, he has a short yet quick arm action, that works well.  He does have a tendency rotate quickly with his lower half and opens up early.  As a result his fastball and his change have plenty of armside run to them.  As he corrects some minor mechanical issues, his breaking ball should improve as well.

For Piesko, it is just a matter of time before it all starts to come together.  He will be one to watch in 2013.
