Zeb Stough, ranked No. 45 in the PA Class of 2018, was a one man wrecking crew on Friday leading Red Land to a win in District 3 - Class 5A quarterfinal action at Red Land High School. The win advances the Patriots to the semifinal round on May 30.
Stough, a High Point commit, cruised through the first five innings keeping the Polar Bears off the scoreboard while allowing just two hits. The right-hander faced a bases loaded jam with no outs in the top of the sixth but was able to get out of the inning allowing just run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jared Sutch. Stough polished off his complete game effort (3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB) with a leadoff single, 3-6 double play and a comebacker to the mound.
The Patriots offense, led by Stoughs 4-for-4 performance, scored three 1st inning runs to give Stough all the support he would need. Brayden Coe, who drove in the game's first run with a double to the wall in left center, led off the 3rd inning with a solo home run to left to extend the lead to 4-0. Stough followed Coe's blast with a solo home run of his own to push the lead to 5-0.
Red Land put to bed any thoughts of a Northern York come back in the bottom of the 6th inning after the Polar Bears had cut the lead to 5-1. The Patriots sent eight hitters to the plate and scored four runs with Stough's double, his 4th hit of the game, driving in the final two runs of the game.
Stough (4-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI), Coe (2-3, BB, 3 R, 2 RBI) and Josh Snyder (2-3, HBP, 2 R, RBI) led the Red Land offense. Trent Culver (1-2, 3B, BB, R) led the Polar Bears three hit attack.
