Another top-level Class of 2014 prospect has named his school when Simeon Lucas verbally committed to Illinois State. Lucas, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher, is currently ranked No. 26 in Illinois and No. 117 overall. Lucas is one of the top left-handed hitters in the state, as he proved as a sophomore last spring. Lucas helped lead Grant to a surprising Final Four run in Class 4A by batting .396 with 17 doubles and 32 RBI. Lucas continued to show his offensive prowess at the PBR Fall Prospect Program this fall.
In other recruiting news, more ranked Class of 2013 have named their schools:
Jake Herron, a RHP from Joliet West HS, has committed to John A. Logan JC. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Herron is currently ranked No. 48 in Illinois. As a junior, Herron posted a 0.79 ERA with 99 Ks in 71.1 innings. Herron gives John A. Logan JC three top 50 prospects in Illinois, joining St. Rita OF Anthony Ray (No. 9) and Clemente LHP Joey Marciano (No. 35).
Alex Jefferson, an athletic OF/RHP from Normal West HS, has committed to Missouri State. As a junior, Jefferson hit .419 with 14 doubles and 17 stolen bases; he also went 9-1 on the mound. Jefferson is ranked No. 69 in the 2013 class.
Oakton CC landed two more prospects: Niles Notre Dame OF/RHP Danny Hyde and O’Fallon RHP Ethan Wild. The 6-foot-4 Hyde, who’s ranked No. 150 in Illinois’ 2013 class, showed well at the PBR Top Prospect Showcase last June.
