Recruiting Notebook: See Who is Going Where in the Classes of 2015 and 2016

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

The past few weeks we have seen a tidal wave of recruiting activity.  In fact the number of commits grew so quickly that we felt it best to break it up into a two-part series.

Let's kick things off with the Classes of 2015 and 2016.

Class of 2015

+ LHP Grant Wolfram (Hamilton HS) saw his stock skyrocket in the past year.  He attended Top Prospect Games and was good, but it was his performance at the Midwest Futures Games that set himself apart.  He garnered national attention before finally committing to Central Michigan.  Wolfram will fit well in the Chippewa program with the coaching staff's ability to develop pitchers. Wolfram is currently ranked No. 10 in Michigan.

+ LHP/OF Tyler Schmidt (Croswell-Lexington HS) has created more buzz than any player in the Class the last couple of months.  Schmidt had attracted a truckload of attention since his performance at Midwest Futures Games.  He turned down offers from programs in the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, MAC and more before finally settling on Ball State University.  Schmidt felt right at home with Head Coach Rich Maloney.  He should compete as a two-way player for the Cardinals.

+ C Evan Kratt (Richmond HS) pulled the trigger on committing to the Chippewas of Central Michigan and joined Grant Wolfram as another highly-talented and prized recruit.  A 6-foot-2, 170-pound lanky backstop, Kratt has an extremely high upside and possesses one of the best arms in the region.

Class of 2016

+RHP Michael Mokma (Holland Christian HS) is the first to commit in the Class of 2016.  Mokma will be heading to Michigan State in a few years.  The 6-foot-4 righty has yet to slow down his growth and his velocity is following his height.  He was up to 87mph this summer but more importantly he has shown a significantly improved slider.
