Recruiting Essentials: Social Media

College coaches and pro scouts are watching.  When you get off the bus, they are watching.  When you are working in the cage, they are watching.  When you are playing for a championship in front of 3,000 fans, of course they are watching.  The reach of recruiting information does not have a limit.  Coaches want to know what they are getting on the field, in the classroom, and in the locker room, so they are watching.

The growth and popularity of smart phones has led to another avenue coaches and scouts can gain valuable information.  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat have changed the way high school players communicate.  At their fingertips, a player can communicate with their friends, family, and coaches.  These same communications are also received by enemies, haters, and those that are jealous.  Think before you post.

Social Media is a Good Thing

Each year, for the past ten or so, in our team meetings we would have several people talk to our guys about social media.  The speeches would range from the "do’s and don’ts" to staying safe on social media, and to tips and thoughts for being successful on social media.  Social media allows you to connect, and stay connected with people that you may not see every day.  It allows you the ability to update your progress and growth.  Very simply, social media allows you the ability to expand your inner circle because you are able to share more in a short amount of time ...
