Recruiting Board: Siena College
January 31, 2018
The new Feature 'Recruiting Board' takes a deeper look into the players currently committed (or 2018 graduates recently signed this past November) to New York colleges. We will only focus on players that have attended PBR events, as these are the prospects we are most comfortable discussing and projecting.
We will be completing player descriptions in addition to forecasting players potential impact at the college level and what that could mean for the college program. This article is for all the fans and enthusiast of the game, players, families, college programs, alumni, and future prospective student athletes.
** Players below are, to the best of our knowledge, committed to the program listed below. These are solely our opinions with absolutely no input from the college's baseball staff. Commitments are always subject to change.

Our last Recruiting Board dove into the future of the Red Foxes and the Marist College baseball program. This week we hone in on the player's in our system from attending events already signed/committed to Siena College. Currently the Saints 49-year head coach Tony Rossi sits with five PBR NY alumni commitments, all five from the 2018 class and are expecting to make an impact this fall. The theme is consistent - pitching and outfielders, outfielders, and outfielders... Let's get started.
James Flood RHP / OF / Red Hook , NY / 2018Rankings StateRank: 39 / POS: 14
No stranger to PBR, Flood has been with us since 2015 and has attended three events over that duration. Ranked the No. 39th prospect in NY's 2018 class, and the 14th best RHP, Flood brings athleticism to the mound from a thick 6-foot-0, 185-pound build. The arm-swing screams more velocity potential with the long-but-fluid action already sitting mid-80's with tilt to the fastball. There's a confident feel for the breaking-ball and the shape is premium. Mechanically speaking he's definitely worked over the years at creating a repeatable delivery, the hip separation looks above average, there's little to no restriction. BOLD PREDICTION: Flood makes the quickest impact of all the 2018 incoming recruits this fall. He's got the velocity to challenge hitters right away, signs that more velocity will come, and a breaking ball that plays well in that league. |
Nick Melillo OF / 2B / CBA- Albany, NY / 2018Rankings StateRank: 61 / POS: 8
Melillo checks in at 6-foot-0, 170-pounds with next-level athleticism evidenced by his sub 7.0 60 yard dash. At the plate the swing is short and compact, aggressive attacking the ball creating next-level bat-speed. From the OF he uses his quickness to stay in the proper fielding position, gets through his throws showing a strong accurate arm. BOLD PREDICTION: Melillo fights hard for PT his freshman year but eventually the athleticism breaks through and he finds himself a regular in the Saints outfield, 1-2 or 7-8 hole type hitter. |
Scottie O'Bryan OF / RHP / Jamesville DeWitt , NY / 2018Rankings StateRank: 189 / POS: 47
Possibly the most athletic of the group is O'Bryan, a greater Syracuse area prospect who has set some serious goals in place for this spring/summer. Watching him take BP is more methodical than anything, the path is loose but effort is minimal, the power is slight but with a more aggressive approach I think the bat supports juice from the 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame. Defensively, the arm is above average, the action is long but quick on the front-side, something I took note of while watching him pitch. He's crude, not a polished pitcher, but there's advanced hand-speed, a low-mid 80's fastball, and the fact he gets easy extension out in front makes me think there's a possible future on the mound. BOLD PREDICTION: My educated guess is the Siena coaching staff liked the "athlete" O'Bryan is now, and love what the tools should develop into. It's a scary fact because the athleticism O'Bryan has is hard-to-find. He enters the program as a raw ceiling type prospect, leaves well-rounded helping the Saints as a "Dual" playing prospect. |
Ryan McGee OF / Colonie , NY / 2018Rankings StateRank: 67 / POS: 10
McGee is my sleeper pick for the Saints. He's got a slender build that's underdeveloped with signs of athleticism defensively and in the box. With the bat he does his damage from the left-side with a sweet looking fluid swing. Looses some power when he collapses on his back side, but that's a relatively easy mechanical fix. The ball jumps off the bat to his pull-side already showing evidence of high-end bat-speed. From the OF he plays quicker than his 7.1 60 yard dash time, instinctively getting a step on his routes, and his arm is athletic with zero restrictions and above average strength. BOLD PREDICTION: It's going to happen either this spring/summer or after his first-year in college, but McGee is going to add 20-pounds to his frame and the prospect bell is going to ring throughout the Capital region. My pick to make some real headlines throughout his college career. |
Benjamin Seiler LHP / 1B / Albany Academy, NY / 2018Rankings StateRank: 108 / POS: 7
Seiler is an absolute tank standing 6-foot-6, 255-pounds with a large burly build. Left-handed and repeats his delivery with a slightly closed front side when he lands. We saw him last summer at the NYS Games where his velo was in the low-80's, fastball had arm-side tail and there was clear deception due to the closed landing - ball got on the hitters quicker than the 80-81 mph fastball would indicate. There are reports of more velocity and after focusing in on his arm-action I think there's no doubt he has more in the tank. He offers a knuckle-curveball that had the tendency to back-up but still had shape and was around the strike zone consistently. This off-season is critical for the Albany Academy senior and needs to focus on flexibility and strength. BOLD PREDICTION: Seiler takes his first-year to get acclimated to college baseball and the everyday grind of throwing combined with the demands of strength and conditioning. Oh what a year can do.... By sophomore year Seiler breaks the rotation and the velo catches back up to the mid-upper 80's. Chance to have an outstanding career in the METRO. |
