The Freshmen Free Showcase was held on Sunday, January 29 at the Virginia Sports Complex in Ruther Glen, VA. Although only around 25 in attendance, there was still plenty of reason to get excited about the future in Virginia. Today we give you early thoughts after letting the event marinate for a day.

Another who impressed over the course of the day was SS Carter Trice of Lee Davis HS. Trice displayed smooth actions in the field with a clean glove and exchange. Showed a good presence during the day as well. Across the diamond Trice got up to 82 mph with a shorter quick arm action and looks to have more in the tank as well. He showed a smooth swing at the plate with some rhythm and strength for his young age. A bit pull happy at times, but the hands were free and worked well. One to keep an eye on to see develop.

Leading the most categories on the day was LHP/OF Trey Boll of Collegiate. Boll has a projectable, athletic frame and moved well in the outfield. On the mound he showed and shorter, quick arm action with clean delivery topping out at 81 mph and should have more in the tank as he grows. Boll was 83 mph from the outfield, moved well with a 4.31 home to first and showed some strength with an 89 mph exit velocity. As with most freshmen, he still has room to grow and some areas to improve upon, but has a lot to like with his frame and potential.

Shane Saunders is a young outfielder with a quick level swing and some bat speed at the plate. He showed athletic actions with some arm strength in the outfield. Has a more compact, explosive frame that looks like could be a top of the order type hitter, but also surprise you with occasional pop.

Keep an eye out for 2021 grad Christian Martin. A left handed hitting infielder, Martin had sound actions for his young age along with a smooth swing and direct path. He did a nice job using the middle of the field during his BP.

Physicality was the first thing saw with Cameron Mozingo-Morales and his imposing 6-foot-5 frame. On the day Morales focused on hitting and defense, which showed some power potential at the plate with a longer path and a long and free arm action at first base. Watching him throw combined with his size instantly makes you want to see the young man on the mound at some time.

Wyatt Miles was another to have a nice workout on the day. An overall solid workout, Miles showed some bat speed at the plate, barrelling up the ball well. Got a little out of balance at times, but overall had a good swing and took some good round of BP. Had sound actions in the field and fundamentally sound, and got up to 77 across the diamond. Very intriguing prospect.

Tillman Butler showed off some strength at the plate during his batting practice session. Got around the ball at times, but did put a few swings on that showed a shorter path with some extension. Raw defensively both behind the plate and at the corner, but an interesting one to keep an eye on.

Mason Satterfield showed off potential two way ability getting as high as 75 on the mound.

Note: Martin and Kelly Hackley Jr. are actually 2021 graduates. They were mistakenly put down as 2020 grads on the stats sheet.
