Q&A with Western Michigan Commit: Grant Miller (Bay City Western HS)

Miller is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound soon to be senior that is a pure hitter. His consistent swing path and
smooth stroke lead to finding a lot of barrels. But he is not limited to just being a hitter, Miller can pick it as well. His hands are soft and his arm is serviceable to make plays.
We caught up with Grant after he committed to Western Michigan. Here is what he had to say:
PBR: Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice??
Miller: I decided to attend Western Michigan University because they have great coaches and I love their facilities! I also like that Coach Gernon has the program headed in the right direction. Another big reason I chose Western is because of their great engineering program. As a whole Western offers everything I want to keep improving my game and to reach my full potential.
PBR: What other schools were you considering??
Miller: Oakland
PBR: Was distance from home a factor in your decision??

Miller: Not really, It's only a 2 1/2 hour drive so it's relatively close to home.
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff??
Miller: They first saw me at their prospect camp last november and I soon went on an unofficial visit shortly after the camp. Me and Coach Gernon's relationship continued to grow throughout the recruiting process. I instantly liked the vision he had for Western and his goals for the program. He and the rest of the coaching staff are outstanding and I can't wait to play for them!
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Miller: They expect me to come in and compete for playing time right away. They see me as a utility player who can play any position throughout the infield and maybe find some playing time platooning in left field.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Miller: My biggest strength as a player is my hitting. I'm a very confident hitter and I feel that my confidence helps me succeed as a hitter not only in normal situations, but also late in games when our team needs a hit or a run. I also can help provide solid defense where ever the coaches want me to play.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?

Miller: This summer I play for Saginaw Means Stamping. Last summer apart of the Saginaw Bay Riverdawgs my most memorable experience was hitting a home run at Oakland University and also just having a bunch of fun with my teammates at all the tournaments!

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Miller: Going into my senior year my team goal is to make it to Battle Creek and compete for a state title. Individually I want to continue to develop my skills and make all-state.
