Q&A with Underclass Invitational Participant Cole Blatchford

Prep Baseball Report Colorado is ready to hit the ground running in 2015 with two major events.  With the Underclass Invitational at Slammers South just two weeks away, limited spots are still available for this event. Over the next two weeks, PBR Colorado will continue to introduce you to 2017 and 2018 players who have committed to this event.  Continuing our second round look at registered players is 5-foot-9, 150-pound, SS/RHP, 2017 Cole Blatchford from Mountain Vista High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:

Blatchford:  I try to be a consistent, reliable player who is also mentally sharp and understands the game of baseball. I try to do the little things right, and to be a player you can count on to not only get on base and make plays in the field, but also do the little things that matter like laying down a bunt or hitting behind a base runner to advance him.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?

Blatchford:  I would like to play at a Division 1 school with good academics. I would like to play on a team that will push me and has the potential to play in the College World Series.

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Blatchford:  At this point in my high school career, I believe that my defensive consistency and ability to hit the ball to all fields are my greatest on-field strengths. Off the field I focus on getting good grades, working hard in the weight room, and being a good teammate.

PBR:  What does your off-season preparation look like this year compared to you freshman year?

Blatchford:  My off-season preparation this year looks similar to my freshman year. Every day, I try to hit in the cages, work out, or throw and take ground balls if the weather is good enough. One of the Mountain Vista coaches has allowed the players to use his indoor cages, which has helped me to hit more consistently this offseason.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Blatchford:  The best advice I have received is to not worry about the things I can’t control. I try to only focus on the things I can do to help our team win and not worry about anything else.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Blatchford:  I do not have any superstitions or specific routines that I go through.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season: This season I would like to earn a starting infield spot for the varsity team.

Two Years: In two years I would like to be a leader in the program as a senior and would like to have won a state championship.

Four Years: In four years I want to be a part of a good college baseball program that will continue to challenge me to get better.
