Prep Baseball Report Colorado brought you 2017 Colorado Player Rankings and now we will begin to introduce you to the 2017 and 2018 players who are registered for the Underclass Invitational at Slammers South. PBR Colorado continues our look at registered players with Andy Beyene 5-foot-11, 140 pound, OF, 2017, Cherry Creek High School.
PBR: Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:
Beyene: I would describe myself as a confident outfielder who will do anything it takes to win. I'm a patient hitter who draws a lot of walks. I have gap to gap power and I like to use the whole field. Defensively, I consider myself a great outfielder. I take good routes to the ball and I have excellent closing/tracking speed. I have very good arm strength and I pride myself on having as many outfield assists as possible. I have great speed so I enjoy causing havoc on the base paths.
PBR: What would be your dream school to play baseball at?
Beyene: My dream schools to play ball at are TCU and University of Arizona
PBR: What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?
Beyene: On the field, my best asset is my speed. My fall coach thinks i can run a 40 Yard Dash in the 4.4-4.5 range. Off the field, I'm very motivated. I hold a 3.6 GPA this semester and I'm always looking for ways to improve myself in the classroom and on the field.
PBR: What does your off-season preparation look like this year compared to you freshman year?
Beyene: My preparation this year consists of a lot more throwing and hitting. One similarity from last year is that I still do strength/speed work 5 days a week.
PBR: What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?
Beyene: Have fun. Unfortunately, I will not be playing baseball forever, so i try enjoy every time I spike up because it may be my last.
PBR: What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?
Beyene: I'm not a very superstitious guy, but before the game, I like to find myself some time to pray.
PBR: What are your goals for:
This Season: Start on Junior Varsity, hit over .400, steal 15 bases, and make less than 3 errors
Two Years: Lead Cherry Creek to a state championship and win Gatorade Player of the Year
Four Years: Compete for a starting outfield at a Division 1 University
2017 and 2018 get noticed at the first pbr Colorado event of the year
